Chapter 15 - The Corporate Syndicate Exposed

The arrest of the private security contractors on the river sent shockwaves through the executive boardrooms of New York and Atlanta.

Inside the penthouse suite of Arthur Sterling in Manhattan, the television was tuned to a live financial news broadcast displaying mugshots of the detained mercenaries alongside corporate linkage charts connecting them directly to Victoria Sterling-Cross’s offshore accounts.

Claire Vance stood by the window, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. "The mercenaries have started talking, Arthur. They’ve confessed that Victoria hired them not just to steal steel, but to sabotage the rail spur construction."

Arthur Sterling poured himself a glass of amber whiskey, his hands perfectly steady, though his eyes revealed a deep, cold calculation. "Victoria was always reckless. She never understood that true power isn't wielded with blunt force on a riverbank; it’s wielded through patience, capital, and institutional alliances."

"What do we do now?" Claire asked. "The federal prosecutors are expanding their indictments to include anyone tied to the Sterling-Kross syndicate."

"Which is precisely why we distance ourselves immediately," Arthur said calmly, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Draft a public statement condemning Victoria’s reckless actions. Disavow any familial or corporate connection to her shipping trusts. And schedule a formal meeting with Elena Vance and Ryker Kincaid."

Claire blinked in surprise. "You want to negotiate with the Kincaids?"

"I want to survive them," Arthur corrected her, turning to face her with an unreadable expression. "The Kincaids have proven they cannot be bought, intimidated, or legally outmaneuvered. Therefore, we offer them what they actually want: a mutual defense pact against foreign capital flight, in exchange for exclusive distribution rights across their new rail network."

"And if they reject the pact?"

Arthur smiled thinly. "They won't. Because the person coming after them next isn't just a corporate raider. It’s someone from their own past whom they thought was locked away forever."
