Chapter 9 - The New Chapter

Two years later, the Bel-Air estate looked entirely different. The formal, austere rooms that had once felt like a cold museum had been transformed into a vibrant, lived-in family home. Fingerpaintings hung on the refrigerator, a grand piano sat in the corner of the living room with sheet music scattered across the bench, and the gardens were filled with bright flowers planted by Valeria and Sofia with Marisol’s guidance.

I stood in my home office, buttoning the cuffs of a tailored dark blue suit, though this time there was no leather briefcase packed for a fake trip to Canada, and no security monitors flashing warning signs in the garage. Today was a very different kind of day.

The heavy oak door opened softly, and Marisol walked in, carrying a polished silver tray with a cup of black coffee. She wore an elegant emerald silk dress that suited her far better than any designer gown Chloe had ever forced into the wardrobe.

"You're going to be late if you don't leave in twenty minutes, Alexander," Marisol said with a warm, teasing smile, placing the coffee cup on my desk. "The girls are already dressed and arguing over who gets to carry the ring pillow."

"Let them argue," I laughed, taking a sip of the coffee and looking at her with deep affection. "They've been practicing their flower-girl walk for a month. Nothing is going to stop them from making this wedding absolute perfection."

It was funny how life turned out. What started as a terrifying discovery in a dark security monitoring room had completely upended my world, forcing me to strip away the superficial chaos and focus on what truly mattered. In the months following Chloe's departure, Marisol and I had grown closer—not out of convenience or obligation, but through shared healing, mutual respect, and a deep, enduring love that had grown organically in the quiet, safe corners of our home.

"Are you nervous?" Marisol asked softly, stepping closer and straightening my tie with gentle, practiced hands.

I looked down into her warm, kind eyes, feeling a profound sense of peace settle over my chest. The knot of suspicion and anxiety that had plagued me for years was completely gone, replaced by absolute certainty.

"Not even a little bit," I whispered, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her close. "This time, I know I have the right woman by my side. And my daughters have the best mother they could have ever dreamed of."

Just then, a pair of enthusiastic knocks sounded on the office door, and Valeria and Sofia burst into the room, dressed in matching ivory lace dresses with flower crowns resting in their dark hair.

"Daddy! Marisol! The limousine is here!" Valeria announced excitedly, jumping up and down. "We're going to get married! Well, you are getting married, but we get to eat all the cake!"

Marisol and I burst out laughing, looking at each other with pure, unadulterated happiness.
