Chapter 7 - The Genetic Reckoning

Victoria snatched the legal document, her eyes scanning the official judicial seal of the New York County Surrogate's Court.

"What is this nonsense?" she demanded, her voice trembling slightly.

"That is a certified notice of inheritance activation under Section 12 of Richard Ashford’s testamentary trust," Daniel's lead attorney announced, stepping forward with absolute authority.

Daniel opened the stainless-steel transport case, pulling out two certified, tamper-evident laboratory certificates signed by the Chief Medical Examiner of King County, Washington.

He laid them side by side on the polished marble table for every board member to see.

"Biological paternity confirmation for Lily Ashford and Grace Ashford," Daniel declared, looking around the silent room. "Twin daughters born of my legal marriage to Elena Ashford, with a genetic probability of 99.98%."

Gasps erupted around the boardroom. Two senior fund managers leaned forward in astonishment, adjusting their reading glasses to inspect the certified DNA markers.

Victoria’s face drained of every drop of blood, turning the color of curdled milk. Her fingers clutched the edge of the table so hard her knuckles turned chalk-white.

"Children?" she stammered, her voice losing its icy composure and rising into a panicked shriek. "That girl had children? Where did she hide them?"

"She didn't hide them, Mother," Daniel said, his voice dropping into a deadly, dangerous whisper. "She raised them in a small apartment in Seattle while you told me she had run away to Europe with someone else."

Charlotte Montgomery stood up abruptly, grabbing her designer handbag from the table, looking at Victoria in utter disgust.

"You told my father that Daniel was completely unencumbered by heirs, Victoria," Charlotte spat bitterly. "You used my family’s name to stage a corporate ambush against a legitimate marriage!"

"Charlotte, wait!" Victoria pleaded, reaching toward the heiress.

"Do not ever contact my family again," Charlotte declared, storming out of the boardroom and letting the heavy doors slam shut behind her.

Daniel turned his gaze back to his mother, his eyes burning with years of buried betrayal and righteous fury.

"Under my father's will," Daniel continued relentlessly, "the birth of legitimate biological heirs immediately transfers forty percent of the founder's voting stock into an independent blind trust managed by the children's legal mother."

The lead institutional fund manager, Thomas Sterling, stood up and nodded firmly.

"Under the corporate charter, forty percent voting equity coupled with Daniel’s personal fifteen percent gives the Ashford-Elena block fifty-five percent absolute majority control over the board," Sterling confirmed.

Thomas turned to Victoria with cold, corporate finality.

"Mrs. Ashford, your proxy is dissolved. You no longer possess voting authority in this corporation."
