Chapter 10 - The Queen Takes the Throne

One year after the night of the fateful dinner party, the Bellucci estate in Lake Forest was filled with music, laughter, and the clinking of crystal glasses.

It was their third wedding anniversary, and this time, the guest list looked entirely different. Over two hundred guests gathered in the grand rose garden under a canopy of fairy lights: international maritime dignitaries, corporate partners, civic leaders, and the entire leadership council of Brooks & Associates.

Enzo Valenti sat at the head of the garden terrace, looking healthier and more at peace than he had in decades, happily conversing with Elena Brooks about renewable shipping technology. There was no mention of Roman, who had recently been sentenced to twelve years in a federal penitentiary in Indiana. The family honor had been restored, and the new enterprise was thriving beyond anyone’s wildest projections.

Claire stood on the veranda, wearing an exquisite ivory silk gown that hugged her curves and flowed like liquid moonlight. In her arms, she held their two-month-old daughter, Sophia, whose bright blue eyes were taking in the twinkling lights of the garden with quiet curiosity.

Adrian walked out from the French doors, carrying two glasses of sparkling cider. He wore a crisp white linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up, looking relaxed, happy, and entirely transformed from the rigid, insecure man he had once been.

He handed a glass to Claire, then leaned down to gently kiss baby Sophia’s soft forehead. The tiny girl cooed happily, wrapping her tiny fingers around Adrian’s thumb.

“The board just finalized the European expansion report,” Adrian whispered, standing beside his wife and looking out over the crowded garden. “Every metric exceeded our three-year targets in twelve months. Elena said we’re officially the largest private logistics group on the Eastern seaboard.”

Claire took a sip of her cider, smiling softly. “And what did you say?”

“I told her she was talking to the wrong person,” Adrian said with a grin. “I told her that in this house, the CEO holds the baby and makes the rules.”

Claire laughed, a warm, resonant sound that carried across the terrace. “You’ve gotten remarkably comfortable taking orders, Mr. Bellucci.”

“Only from you, my love,” Adrian replied, his voice softening with deep, profound sincerity. “Only from the woman who taught me what real strength looks like.”

He wrapped his arm around Claire’s shoulders, pulling her and their daughter close against his side. Down in the garden, Enzo Valenti noticed them standing on the veranda. The old patriarch stood up, raising his wineglass toward them.

One by one, every guest in the garden turned toward the veranda, raising their glasses in unison toward Claire and Adrian Bellucci.

Enzo called out across the lawn in proud, resonant Italian: “A Claire Bellucci! La Regina del nostro impero!” (To Claire Bellucci! The Queen of our empire!)

The crowd cheered in warm celebration.

Claire looked over at Adrian, her eyes glittering with affection. “Did you understand that one?”

Adrian looked down at her with a tender, triumphant smile, leaning down to press his lips against hers in a long, loving kiss under the starlit sky.

“Every single word, darling,” Adrian whispered against her lips. “Every single word.”"
