Chapter 7 - The Arrest

""Federal agents! Put your hands in the air! Don't move!""

A dozen heavily armed FBI tactical officers flooded the room, their weapons trained directly on Peter Campbell. Laser sights painted crimson dots across his tailored chest. Behind them walked Special Agent Miller, holding a thick federal warrant, flanked by an enraged Harrison Vance and a stoic Elena Rostova.

Peter staggered backward, his arms shooting into the air, his eyes bulging with absolute terror. ""What... Vance? Elena? What is the meaning of this? This is a private family matter!""

""Save it, Campbell,"" Special Agent Miller barked, stepping forward and shoving Peter against the wall. The sound of metal handcuffs snapping shut echoed through the suite with sweet, resounding finality. ""Peter Campbell, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, human trafficking, interstate medical conspiracy, and extortion.""

""This is a mistake!"" Peter screamed, his voice pitching into a panicked screech as he struggled against the agent's grip. ""I have legal contracts! She signed them! Ask her!""

Harrison Vance stepped forward, towering over Peter with cold, unbridled contempt. ""Your friend Dr. Marcus never made it to Belize, Peter. My private security team intercepted him at Logan Airport two hours ago. He’s currently singing like a canary to the Department of Justice in exchange for avoiding a twenty-year sentence. He handed over the original lab records, the unedited fertilization logs, and every single text message you ever sent him detailing how you planned to rob us and drug your wife.""

Peter’s legs gave out, and he would have slumped to the floor if the two FBI agents hadn't held him up by his elbows. He looked at Evelyn Sterling, who stood quietly near the doorway, tears streaming down her face.

""Evelyn... please,"" Peter begged, his voice cracking. ""Arthur was my best friend. I did it to protect the company... to give you hope...""

""You desecrated my husband's memory,"" Evelyn said, her voice shaking with quiet devastation. ""You used my grief to steal millions and attempted to enslave an innocent woman. You are a monster, Peter. I hope you rot in hell.""

Peter turned his desperate, frantic gaze toward me. ""Nora... Nora, baby, please! Tell them! We can fix this! We’re married! Everything I did was for our future, for our wealth! You can't let them take me! Think of our children!""

I stood up slowly, supported by Rachel's steady arm. I walked over until I was standing inches from his sweat-glistened face. I looked into the eyes of the man I had once loved, the man who had promised to cherish me, and felt nothing but profound, liberating indifference.

""They are my children, Peter,"" I said, my voice ringing clear and steady across the room. ""You never loved them. You never loved me. You saw three human lives as dollar signs on a ledger. You will never hold them. You will never hear their laughter. You will never speak their names. You are going to spend the rest of your life in a concrete cage, and I am going to erase you from our history.""

Peter opened his mouth to spit out another curse, but the agents dragged him backward toward the door. His wild screams and desperate protests faded down the hallway until the heavy exterior doors slammed shut, plunging the suite into peaceful, unbroken silence.

Suddenly, a sharp, profound spasm rippled across my lower abdomen. My water broke, pooling onto the hardwood floor.

Dr. Hayes stepped forward immediately, taking my arm with a warm, reassuring smile. ""Alright, Nora. The drama is over. It's time to bring your babies into the world.""
