Chapter 3 - The DNA Bombshell

Before Preston could reach Sabrina, two private security guards hired for the birthday gala stepped forward and blocked his path. They were paid by the venue, and seeing a man lunge at a woman in an elite ballroom crossed every professional line.

"Wait, there is more," Willa announced from the stage. Her innocent voice carried an astonishing, unyielding authority.

She clicked on a highlighted document labeled CONFIDENTIAL GENETIC REPORT — BOSTON LAB CORP. The projector screen displayed a formal paternity analysis, complete with official state seal watermarks and barcoded medical stamps.

"Daddy brought this boy tonight to prove he has an heir," Willa said, her eyes fixed on the little boy who was now sobbing into Sabrina’s skirt. "He told Grandma that I wasn't good enough because I was a sick girl who couldn't carry the name."

The guests leaned in closer, squinting at the glowing projections. Several prominent physicians seated near the front row gasped as their eyes scanned the conclusion section of the medical record.

The document displayed a 0.00% genetic match between Preston Hargrove and the three-year-old child.

Beneath that result was another name. The biological father of the boy was listed clearly as Marcus Sterling—Preston’s primary business rival and the man who had nearly bankrupted Hargrove Logistics two years earlier.

The entire ballroom erupted into chaos. High-society matrons covered their mouths, businessmen began murmuring furiously, and flashbulbs from several local press photographers invited to cover the birthday began flashing relentlessly.

Preston stared at the screen as if an artillery shell had detonated directly in his face. He slowly turned his head toward Sabrina, his eyes bulging with disbelief and rage. "What is this? You told me Leo was my son! You swore on your life!"

Sabrina tried to run, but Eleanor’s wealthy cousins and socialite friends physically blocked the exit doors, crossing their arms with icy, vengeful scowls. She was completely trapped in the lion's den she had tried to conquer.

"You idiot," Sabrina spat, dropping her sweet, innocent façade completely. Her voice became shrill and venomous. "Did you really think a twenty-four-year-old woman fell in love with a bald, arrogant coward like you? Marcus paid me to keep you distracted while he bled your overseas contracts dry!"

Eleanor let out a guttural, choked scream. The woman who had spent fifty years preaching family pride, pedigree, and blue-blooded supremacy collapsed into an armchair, weeping hysterically into her trembling hands.

The prestigious Hargrove legacy hadn't just been fractured; it had been utterly demolished in front of the entire Massachusetts business community.
