Chapter 10 - A Toast to the True Harvest

That evening, Bistro Lumière was closed to the public for a private celebration.

The entire restaurant staff—from our executive head chef to our newest dishwashers—sat together around a massive communal banquet table decorated with white roses, twinkling fairy lights, and crystal glassware.

Laughter and the clinking of glasses echoed off the high brick walls as trays of prime ribeye, roasted sea bass, and artisan pasta were passed freely from hand to hand.

I sat at the head of the table beside Ethan, wearing a simple, elegant emerald-green silk dress, my heart overflowing with quiet, unshakeable contentment.

Ethan stood up, tapping his champagne flute with a silver dessert spoon until the room settled into an expectant hush.

"To my incredible wife," Ethan began, raising his glass high into the warm candlelight.

"A woman who never forgot where she came from, who built an empire with her own two hands, and who taught me that true power isn't about how much you can take from the world... it's about how much you can give back."

The entire room erupted into enthusiastic cheering and applause.

Marco, our sommelier, raised a bottle of vintage Pinot Noir with a wide, triumphant grin.

"And a special toast to the white shirt that started it all!" Marco announced, making the entire dining room roar with affectionate laughter.

I laughed, feeling tears of pure happiness prick the corners of my eyes as I leaned back against Ethan's shoulder.

Through the large bay windows overlooking the city streets, the lights of Chicago twinkled like a carpet of diamonds stretching out into the dark.

Seventeen years ago, I had walked home in the freezing rain with tears on my cheeks, believing that my mother’s apron was a badge of shame and that I was destined to stay invisible forever.

I had learned that dignity was never determined by the uniform you wore, but by the integrity you carried inside your heart.

The bully who had poured wine on me had spent her life chasing status, only to end up with empty hands and a ruined name.

I had chosen to work, to build, and to forgive, and in return, life had given me a love that could never be broken and an empire that no one could ever take away.

Ethan leaned down, brushing his lips against mine in a deep, tender kiss that sealed our future under the warm golden glow of the room.

"Ready for dessert, Mrs. Bennett?" he murmured against my cheek with a devoted smile.

"Only if we're sharing it with everyone at this table," I replied softly, taking his hand as we raised our glasses together into the night.
