Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Execution

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open. Around the massive oval table of polished black granite sat twelve members of the board of directors, their faces tense and grave. At the head of the table sat Charles Sterling—silver-haired, impeccably tailored, projecting an aura of supreme, unshakeable power.

“Ryan,” Charles said smoothly, spreading his hands in a gesture of false magnanimity. “We were beginning to think you wouldn't join us. The board was about to proceed with the vote regarding your fitness to lead Kensington Holdings.”

“The vote won't be necessary, Charles,” Ryan replied, walking straight down the center of the room. He didn't take his usual seat at the head; instead, he stood directly across from Sterling, resting his knuckles on the dark stone.

I walked directly behind him, setting the three red-ribboned binders down in the center of the table with a firm, resounding thud.

“What is the meaning of this theater?” Charles chuckled, though his eyes narrowed dangerously as he looked at the thick folders. “If this is another desperate audit—”

“It’s not an audit,” Ryan interrupted, his voice echoing off the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that framed the Manhattan skyline. “It’s the original 2018 transaction ledger for Sterling Global Capital. The offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. The wire transfers blackmailing my father. And the unauthorized decryption logs transmitted by Tyler Harrison last night under your direct IP signature.”

The color drained instantly from Charles Sterling’s face. He lunged forward, snatching the top binder and tearing it open. As his eyes scanned the certified bank records, his hands began to tremble with unmistakable, uncontrollable dread.

“This... this is an internal matter,” Charles hissed, looking around the table at the other board members, who were already recoiling in shock. “This can be handled quietly! Ryan, think about the merger! Think about Rebecca!”

“I am thinking about Rebecca,” Ryan said coldly. He turned toward the door, where two agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation stepped into the room, badges gleaming in the morning light. “Which is why she will be permitted to retain legal counsel before your assets are frozen.”

The room erupted into total chaos. Board members shouted, jumping from their seats as the agents moved toward Charles Sterling, reading him his constitutional rights while clicking steel handcuffs around his wrists. Rebecca rushed into the room, screaming, her composure shattered as she watched her father being escorted out of the building in disgrace.

Through all the noise, the screaming, and the flashing camera lights of reporters gathering outside the glass doors, Ryan never moved. He stood like a rock in the storm, his eyes fixed only on me.

The nightmare that had haunted him for five years was finally dead.
