Chapter 9 - Rewriting the Future

Two weeks later, the board of Whitaker Global Logistics convened in the top-floor auditorium of our Boston headquarters.
Over thirty high-ranking executives and institutional investors sat around the massive conference table, buzzing with speculation about the emergency restructuring.
I walked into the room wearing a simple navy suit, holding Zion in a baby carrier against my chest.
Behind me walked Emily, dressed in a sharp, elegant ivory blazer and tailored trousers.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen," I announced, taking my seat at the head of the boardroom.
"Today marks a fundamental pivot in the leadership and philosophy of this corporation."
I signaled to the screen behind me, displaying a new corporate charter.
"Effective immediately, fifteen percent of Whitaker Global's annual logistics profits will be directed into the newly established Lily Harrison Foundation."
Emily gasped, turning to look at me with wide, disbelieving eyes.
Lily Harrison was her daughter's name.
"This foundation will entirely eliminate medical bankruptcy for families with pediatric cancer patients throughout the United States," I continued, looking directly at Emily.
"Furthermore, the board has unanimously approved the appointment of Emily Harrison as Chief Executive Director of this charitable trust, with full authority over its grants and hospital partnerships."
Murmurs of approval rippled through the room, followed by enthusiastic applause from the senior directors.
Emily stood frozen, her hands covering her mouth as joyful tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Marcus..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "I don't know what to say. This is... this is more than I could have ever dreamed of."

"You saved my family from complete destruction, Emily," I said, stepping toward her and taking her hands in mine.
"The least I can do is help you save thousands of others in memory of your daughter."
