Chapter 6 - The Confession in the Dawn

The kiss was not polite. It was not the careful, formal gesture they had shared under the eyes of society photographers.

It was a reclamation—a fierce, torrential flood of passion that erased every cold dinner, every hollow conversation, and every locked door that had stood between them.

Dante lifted her effortlessly, carrying her to the wide king-sized bed, his hands trembling as he laid her against the soft pillows.

He braced himself above her, his dark hair falling across his forehead, his gray eyes searching every inch of her flushed, beautiful face.

“Dante,” she breathed, her hands resting flat against his chest, feeling the furious hammer of his pulse against her palms.

“I’m right here, Serena,” he whispered, his voice rough and thick with devotion. “I am never leaving this room again.”

He undid the buttons of his tailored vest, tossing it aside, followed by his tie and cufflinks.

When he reached for the small zipper at the side of her dress, his fingers slowed, his gaze meeting hers with a tender, questioning reverence that made her heart sing.

“Are you sure?” he asked softly.

Serena didn't answer with words.

She reached up, took his face in both of her hands, and pulled his lips back down to hers, arching her back against the mattress, pulling him into her warmth with a fierce, unmistakable certainty.

For the first time in their marriage, there were no secrets between them.

There was only the heat of skin against skin, the whisper of breathless confessions into the quiet dark, and the slow, deliberate unravelling of two souls that had loved each other from across an ocean of silence.

When the first pale rays of dawn finally broke through the eastern clouds, painting the bedroom ceiling in shades of pale rose and gold, the storm over Chicago had completely passed.

Serena lay curled against Dante’s side, her head resting on his bare chest, his strong arm wrapped securely around her waist, keeping her anchored against his warmth.

On the floor beside the bed lay the torn fragments of the divorce settlement—forgotten, useless, and thoroughly destroyed.

Dante’s fingers gently twirled a dark strand of her hair, his thumb lightly stroking the smooth curve of her bare shoulder.

“What was that about the community clinic?” Dante asked softly into the quiet morning air, a faint, teasing smile touching his lips.

Serena lifted her head slightly, blinking sleepily through her dark lashes. “What?”

“Two years ago at the winter gala,” Dante recalled, his eyes bright with affection. “You told me the reception area was wrong. You said patients wouldn't come back if everyone could see into the consultation hallway.”

Serena smiled, a soft, radiant expression that completely transformed her face.

“It was bad architecture, Dante,” she murmured, resting her chin on his chest. “People deserve dignity when they’re asking for help.”

Dante looked down at her with an intensity that took her breath away.

“You redesigned the entire wing from your bedroom, didn't you?” he asked gently.

Serena blushed, hiding her face against the crook of his neck. “I had the blueprints sent to a dummy email address. I couldn't let my father know I was helping your family’s foundation.”

Dante chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated warmly against her cheek.

May you like

He pressed a lingering kiss against her temple, his heart swelling with a pride so profound it brought tears to his eyes.

“You are going to take over the entire foundation board on Monday morning, Mrs. Cavali,” he whispered against her skin. “And this time, your name will be on the front door.”
