Chapter 7 - Unmasking The Snake

Julian left the boardroom, but his words ignited an inferno of rage inside Vincent’s mind.

Vincent didn't wait for the police or the courts. He mobilized his most ruthless private investigators, forensic aviation experts, and digital security teams. They raided the hangar records, hacked private bank accounts, and tore through three years of Sophia Carter’s correspondence with an unyielding vengeance.

By midnight, the evidence was undeniable.

Sophia had made three separate wire transfers totaling half a million dollars to an offshore account owned by a disgraced former aircraft mechanic just two weeks before the fateful flight. Furthermore, phone records showed she had been in contact with the mechanic minutes before they boarded the private jet in Aspen. She had planned the 'malfunction' to occur over remote territory, ensuring that only one person had easy access to the forward emergency chute.

She had never planned for Anna to survive.

Holding the thick dossier of damning evidence in his hands, Vincent felt a sickening rage so intense his vision blurred. He had spent three years consoling the monster who orchestrated the murder of his wife and unborn child. He had held Sophia’s hand while mourning Anna.

He drove across the city in the dead of night, pulling up to the Carter family estate in Gold Coast.

He didn't ring the bell. He kicked the front door open, the heavy lock splintering against the frame with a thunderous crash that woke the entire household.

Sophia came rushing down the grand marble staircase in a silk robe, her mother and father trailing behind her in frantic confusion.

""Vincent?!"" Sophia gasped, seeing the murderous look in his eyes. ""What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?!""

Vincent didn't speak. He hurled the dossier across the marble floor. Hundreds of pages—bank slips, flight logs, wire transfers, and text transcripts—scattered around Sophia’s bare feet like falling autumn leaves.

Sophia looked down, and the color drained completely from her face. Her hands began to shake violently.

""Vincent... let me explain..."" she whimpered, backing up against the banister.

""Explain what?"" Vincent’s voice was dead, devoid of any humanity. ""Explain how you paid half a million dollars to burn my wife alive? Explain how you watched me weep over her empty grave every Sunday for three years, smiling behind my back?""

""She wasn't right for you!"" Sophia suddenly screamed, her aristocratic composure completely shattering into hysterical madness. ""I loved you first! I was by your side when you built your empire! Then that quiet, pathetic Bennett girl showed up and stole everything that was supposed to be mine! I deserved that ring! I deserved to carry your heir!""

Sophia’s mother gasped in horror, covering her mouth as she stared at her daughter in utter disbelief.

""You deserve a cage,"" Vincent said, pulling out his phone.

Four armed Chicago police detectives, accompanied by FBI federal agents, stepped through the shattered front door, handcuffs already drawn.

""Sophia Carter, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aviation sabotage,"" the lead agent announced, snapping the cold steel around her manicured wrists.

""Vincent, please!"" Sophia shrieked as they dragged her down the stairs, her screams echoing through the foyer. ""You love me! You chose me on that plane! You can't let them take me! Vincent!""

Vincent turned his back on her, walking out into the cold night without looking back once.
