Chapter 10 - The Vow Renewed

One year later, the shores of Lake Michigan were bathed in the soft, warm glow of an early summer sunset.

The event was small, intimate, and private—a stark contrast to the grand, chaotic gala that had brought them back together. Only twenty close friends, including Julian Vance, gathered on the private beach behind the estate. White roses adorned a modest wooden arbor set against the tranquil horizon of the lake.

Leo, now four years old and looking remarkably handsome in a tiny tuxedo with a crooked bowtie, served proudly as the ring bearer, marching down the sandy aisle with a broad, gap-toothed grin.

Anna walked down the aisle in an ivory silk slip dress, her hair blowing softly in the evening breeze. She was neither the timid girl who had died on that plane nor the icy socialite who had threatened to destroy him. She was whole. She was powerful, forgiving, and deeply loved.

Vincent waited at the end of the aisle, his eyes shining with profound reverence as he took her hands into his own.

The minister smiled warmly. ""Vincent, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, through fire and calm, through trial and triumph, for as long as you both shall live?""

Vincent looked directly into Anna’s hazel eyes. His voice was steady, resonant with an unwavering conviction that reached into the very depths of his soul.

""Three years ago, I let go of your hand when you needed me the most,"" Vincent said, slipping a simple platinum band onto her slender finger. ""I spent an eternity in hell learning the cost of that failure. From this day forward, I promise that there is no fire hot enough, no storm violent enough, and no power on this earth that will ever make me let go again. My life, my breath, and my loyalty belong only to you, Anna. Forever.""

Tears spilled over Anna’s eyelashes as she smiled, sliding a matching band onto his finger.

""I spent three years hiding from the ghost of our love, Vincent,"" Anna whispered, her voice full of tenderness and hard-won peace. ""I thought survival meant building walls so high that no one could ever hurt me again. But you tore those walls down with your patience, your remorse, and your devotion. I choose you, Vincent. Not because you are flawless, but because you fought your way back to me through the ashes.""

""By the power vested in me,"" the minister declared, ""I now pronounce you husband and wife.""

Vincent wrapped his arms around Anna’s waist, lifting her slightly as he brought his lips to hers in a tender, passionate kiss that sealed away the years of pain, betrayal, and sorrow.

The small crowd burst into enthusiastic applause. Leo ran up, wrapping his arms around both of their legs, giggling as Vincent reached down with one arm to scoop the boy up, holding his wife and his son together against his chest.

As the sun dipped below the water, casting long streaks of gold and violet across the sky, Vincent held his family close. The jet had burned, the lies had crumbled, and the past was finally laid to rest. In its place, rising strong and unbreakable from the ashes, was a love that would never fail again."
