Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

One year later.
The annual Global Philanthropy Summit in New York City was the most anticipated gala of the autumn season. The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel buzzed with world leaders, royalty, and industry titans. Camera flashes exploded along the red carpet outside as the elite made their grand arrivals.
Inside the lavish foyer, a freelance valet driver stood near the service entrance, wearing an ill-fitting black uniform, holding a stack of coat checks with trembling hands.
It was Grant.
After losing his banking licenses and exhausting his savings on rent he could no longer afford, Grant had been reduced to working high-end private hospitality shifts to pay off mounting debt. He kept his head down, praying every minute that no former colleague from Vanguard would recognize him behind the valet stand.
Suddenly, the ballroom doors swung open, and the crowd parted in awed reverence.
""She's here,"" someone in the VIP lounge whispered. ""The director of the Stone Foundation.""
Grant looked up through the glass partition, his breath catching in his throat.
Stepping into the ballroom arm-in-arm with Caleb Stone was Emily Carter.
She looked breathtakingly radiant in an emerald-green silk velvet gown that trailed gracefully behind her. A delicate diamond choker glittered at her throat, but the true brilliance came from her posture—regal, effortless, and glowing with an undeniable inner power. Caleb looked at her not as an accessory or a trophy, but with profound, visible devotion, leaning in to whisper something that made her laugh softly.
Reporters clamored for her attention. World-renowned philanthropists rushed forward to shake her hand. She spoke with grace and quiet confidence, commanding the most influential room on the planet without raising her voice.
Grant stood frozen behind the velvet ropes of the valet counter, his chest tightening until he could barely breathe.
Six years. She had given him six years of pure, selfless devotion, cooking his meals, paying his bills, and believing in his dreams when no one else would. And he had thrown her away because he thought she was too ordinary to fit into high society.
Now, she stood at the absolute pinnacle of that world, effortlessly cherished by a man a thousand times more powerful than Grant could ever hope to be.
Emily glanced toward the exit doors as she was being guided toward the keynote podium. For one fleeting second, her eyes swept across the service corridor and locked onto Grant standing in his servant's uniform, clutching coat checks in the shadows.
There was no triumph in her eyes. No malice. No anger.
There was only complete, peaceful detachment. She looked at him the way one looks at a stranger on a crowded subway train—a passing shadow that held no meaning in her magnificent present.
Then she turned back to Caleb, who smiled down at her and offered his arm as she stepped up onto the stage under the blinding spotlight.

The room erupted into thundering applause.
Emily took the microphone, standing tall before the world, finally exactly where she had always belonged: in the light, loved for who she was, and completely unstoppable."
