Chapter 10 - One Little Place for Love

One year later.

The summer sun sparkled over the private gardens of Gabriel’s waterfront estate. Fragrant white camellias bloomed in abundance along the stone pathways, filling the warm breeze with sweet perfume. Underneath the ancient live oaks, adorned with fairy lights and cascading ribbons of ivory silk, a small, intimate gathering of true friends and chosen family sat waiting.

Inside the garden pavilion, Nora looked at herself in the mirror.

Her wedding gown was a masterpiece of her own creation. Pure ivory silk that draped over her curves like liquid moonlight, featuring a sculpted sweetheart neckline and long, illusion-lace sleeves embroidered with delicate morning vines. At the hem of the cathedral train, nestled among tiny ivory petals, was her mother's favorite motif: the little wren with wings spread wide, woven with ordinary golden cotton thread.

She touched the golden stitch, smiling through tears of absolute joy.

“Because perfection should always leave one little place for love to get in.”

""She would be so proud of you, Nora,"" Arthur Vance said gently from the doorway, wiping away a tear. As her official escort, he offered his arm with grandfatherly warmth. ""Are you ready, my dear?""

""I have never been more ready in my life,"" Nora replied.

As the string quartet began playing June Bellamy’s favorite classical waltz, Nora stepped out onto the petal-strewn aisle.

Gabriel stood beneath an arch of fresh white roses. The ruthless magnate who had once terrorized his enemies into submission stood completely breathless, a bright, helpless smile illuminating his handsome face. When Nora reached the altar, he took both of her hands into his own, kissing her knuckles with unmatched reverence.

""You look breathtaking, my wren,"" he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

""You look like a man who finally found his peace,"" Nora smiled back.

Their vows were simple, honest, and sealed with a passionate kiss that drew joyful cheers from the small crowd.

Later that evening, after the music had softened and the stars blanketed the warm Charleston sky, Gabriel and Nora stood together on the stone terrace overlooking the quiet harbor. Gabriel wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, resting his chin gently against her shoulder as the cool ocean breeze fluttered her veil.

""Your mother gave me a handkerchief when I was a lost boy with no future,"" Gabriel murmured, his thumb caressing the wedding ring on her finger. ""I thought she gave me hope. But now I know she was saving me so I could one day protect her greatest masterpiece.""

Nora leaned back against his strong chest, looking out at the endless, shimmering water. The insults, the laughter, the attic room, and the years of pain were all gone, swept away like dust in the wind. She had found her voice, reclaimed her heritage, and conquered the world on her own terms—standing tall, taking up space, and fiercely loved."
