Chapter 8 - The Dragon Unleashed

When the armored sedan roared through the gates of the Moretti estate, Dante was already standing on the front steps. He wore no coat despite the freezing wind. His face was entirely devoid of human expression; it was a terrifying mask of pure, apocalyptic rage that made even seasoned guards step back in absolute dread.
The car doors flew open. Sal, clutching his bleeding side, carried Sophie up the wide stone stairs. Elena ran out from the foyer, screaming her daughter’s name, collapsing onto her knees as she pulled Sophie into a frantic, weeping embrace.
Dante knelt down beside them. Sophie’s little face was covered in tears, soot, and a tiny scrape on her cheek, but she was alive. When she saw Dante, she reached out her small arms, burying her face into his neck, soaking his shirt with her terrified tears.
“Uncle Dante...” she sobbed uncontrollably. “The bad men... they tried to take me... they hurt Sal...”
Dante wrapped his massive arms around the trembling child, holding her so tightly against his chest that he could feel the frantic beating of her tiny heart. He closed his eyes, pressing his cheek against her dark braids, whispering in a low, trembling voice: “I’ve got you, Sophie. You are safe. Nobody will ever touch you again. I swear it on my soul.”
He handed Sophie gently to Elena, instructing the house physician to attend to both the girl and the wounded guards immediately.
When Dante turned back to face Marco, the temperature on the porch seemed to plummet ten degrees.
“Who was in that van?” Dante asked. The voice wasn't loud; it was an icy razor blade cutting through steel.
“Three independent mercenaries hired by Tommy Calvini—Salvatore’s youngest son,” Marco answered, his face pale. “They’re holed up in an abandoned meatpacking facility near the canal in Newark, waiting for a boat to smuggle them to Canada.”
Dante adjusted his cufflinks. “Gather the strike team. All forty men. No police. No federal packages. No mercy.”
“Boss,” Marco hesitated for a fraction of a second. “The federal task force is already watching the Newark perimeter—”
“I don't give a damn about the federal task force,” Dante snarled, stepping into the armored command SUV. “They tried to steal my daughter. Tonight, the Calvini bloodline ends forever.”
By midnight, the Newark meatpacking plant was an inferno.
Dante didn't wait in the car. Armed with a tactical shotgun, he walked through the blown-open steel doors behind his men, dismantling the remaining remnants of the rival syndicate with ruthless, terrifying efficiency. Every hideout, every illegal ledger, and every weapon cache belonging to the Calvini family across New York and New Jersey was systematically wiped off the map in a single three-hour blitzkrieg.
Tommy Calvini was found cowering in a refrigerated storage locker, surrounded by his fallen bodyguards. When Dante stepped through the plastic curtains, the young mobster fell to his knees, babbling for his life.
“Please, Moretti! We didn't touch her! She wasn't hurt! It was just business! Just leverage!”
Dante leveled the cold steel barrel directly between Tommy’s terrified eyes.

“You touched the wrong little girl,” Dante said coldly.
The blast echoed through the hollow warehouse, closing the final chapter of the Calvini syndicate forever.
