Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

One year later, the Atlantic wind howled against the reinforced glass of the Falcone Manor library, but inside, the room was warm, bright, and filled with life. The heavy velvet drapes had been permanently pulled back to let the golden afternoon sunlight flood the polished mahogany floors, completely erasing the dark, oppressive shadows of the past.

I stood by the grand bay window, watching Lily run across the rolling green lawn toward the cliffside overlook, her laughter carrying clearly over the sound of the crashing waves. She was healthy, vibrant, and completely free of the medical debt that had once held our lives hostage. The terrible hospital bills, the eviction notices, and the freezing November rain of my past felt like a lifetime ago—a distant nightmare from a girl who no longer existed.

Footsteps echoed softly behind me, and a heavy, warm wool jacket was gently draped over my shoulders. I didn't need to turn around to know it was Roman. He stepped up beside me, leaning against the window frame and looking out at the lawn with a quiet, contented smile.

“You know, you never did collect your forty-eight-hour bonus from Mrs. Hess,” Roman teased softly, his slate-gray eyes sparkling with affectionate amusement.

I turned my head, resting my shoulder against his arm with a comfortable familiarity that would have seemed impossible just twelve months ago.

“I think I managed to negotiate a much better compensation package, Mr. Falcone,” I replied, flashing him a bright, knowing smile. “Though you still owe me ten minutes of overtime from the day Declan broke that crystal glass.”

Declan and Gabriel walked into the library just then, bickering loudly over who was supposed to grill the steaks for dinner, while Lily burst through the double doors demanding we all come outside to watch the sunset over the ocean.

The three mafia brothers, once feared by everyone in the city, simply rolled their eyes and let themselves be dragged outside by the two girls who had completely changed their world. Falcone Manor was no longer a cold, dark fortress of fear and isolation. It was a fortress of family, of loyalty, and of unbreakable love—a sanctuary where we were finally, permanently safe, and where the past could never hurt us again.
