Chapter 6 - The Bloodline Trust

Judge Vance leaned forward across his elevated bench, his eyes darting from Dante to Elena’s left hand, where the antique Moretti sapphire caught the courtroom chandeliers.

"Mr. Moretti, did you say your wife?" Judge Vance asked, his authoritative tone cutting through the gallery's gasps.

Elena stepped up to the podium, opening a slim green leather portfolio. She produced a certified marriage certificate issued by the Cook County clerk’s office at 6:15 that morning, stamped with the golden seal of the State of Illinois.

"Elena Valente Moretti, Your Honor," Elena announced, her voice ringing clear, steady, and mesmerizingly confident. "Sole legitimate trustee of the Valente Riverfront Maritime Estate."

Harrison Cole rushed forward, waving his red dossier frantically.

"Your Honor, this is an illegal maneuver designed to subvert an active creditor default!" Cole shouted, sweat glistening on his forehead. "The 2005 alliance contract clearly grants the Moretti organization the right of execution upon insolvency!"

"The 2005 contract was executed under fraud and coercion, Judge," Dante declared, stepping to the podium beside his wife.

Dante placed a sealed blue folder directly on the clerk’s desk.

"Those are the certified bank records from Credit Suisse in Zurich," Dante continued, pointing an unyielding finger at his uncle. "Recovered four hours ago by federal financial examiners."

Giancarlo’s face flushed an ugly, mottled purple. His hands began to shake violently against his table.

"They document thirty-eight unauthorized wire transfers from Valente Holdings into Cerberus Holdings, an offshore account managed exclusively by Giancarlo Moretti," Dante revealed to the entire courtroom.

Elena looked directly at the man who had sent hitmen to shoot through her windows twelve hours earlier.

"You created the artificial insolvency, Giancarlo," Elena said, each word landing like an executioner’s axe. "You drained my father's accounts to trigger the default clause on page nine, so you could claim the terminals without paying a single dollar."

Judge Vance flipped through the financial forensic sheets, his mouth tightening into a thin, furious line.

"Furthermore, Your Honor," the clerk announced, stepping forward with an emergency facsimile transmission. "The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois has just unsealed a twenty-four-count federal indictment against Giancarlo Moretti for wire fraud, corporate extortion, and conspiracy to commit homicide."

Two federal marshals stepped through the side doors, their handcuffs gleaming under the fluorescent lights.

"Giancarlo Moretti, you are under arrest," the lead marshal commanded, moving toward the defense table.

Giancarlo backed away, knocking over his legal folders, his eyes wild with trapped, cornered desperation.

"Dante!" Giancarlo screamed, pointing a trembling, venomous finger at his nephew. "You betrayed your own blood for this girl! You broke the family oath!"

"My brother died because of your greed, Uncle," Dante replied, his voice dropping into a whisper that froze the air in the room. "The only oath I have left is to the woman standing beside me."
