Chapter 10 - Two Hearts, One Dynasty

Late that night, after the last guests had departed and the ballroom lights were dimmed, Dante and Elena walked up the grand staircase to their private quarters.
The snow was falling heavily outside, muffling the distant sounds of the city into a peaceful, sacred silence.
Elena walked into their expansive master bathroom, the room already filled with the soothing, lavender-scented steam of a hot shower.
She stood before the wide vanity mirror, unhooking the sapphire pendant from her throat and resting it on the marble counter.
Behind her, the glass shower door opened.
Dante stepped out, wearing only a pair of dark linen lounge trousers, a towel slung loosely over his damp, muscular shoulder.
He stopped, leaning against the doorframe, his dark eyes sparkling with that familiar, dangerous humor that had started everything two months ago.
"You know," Dante said, his voice dropping into that deep, irresistible baritone, "eleven minutes was all it took for you to ruin my reputation as a cold-blooded killer."
Elena turned around slowly, leaning her back against the marble vanity, crossing her arms with an arched eyebrow.
"Your reputation survived, Mr. Moretti," she laughed softly. "The entire city knows you're terrifying."
"They don't know the truth," Dante murmured, taking three slow, deliberate strides across the heated floor until he was standing directly in front of her.
He reached out, his warm, strong hands gently encircling her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.
"And what is the truth, Dante?" she whispered, her hands drifting up his arms to rest against the scars on his broad shoulders.
"The truth is," Dante said, looking down into her soul with an intensity that made the rest of the world fade into nothingness, "that the most ruthless man in Chicago belongs entirely to a girl who walked into his bathroom with a bar of soap."
Elena smiled—a radiant, unburdened smile that held the promise of a lifetime—and tilted her chin upward.
"Then soap my back tomorrow morning, Boss," she murmured against his lips.
Dante laughed—a rich, joyous sound that echoed off the marble walls—and captured her mouth in a deep, breathtaking kiss that sealed their love, their honor, and their sovereign future forever.

The contracts of the past were dead. The ghosts of betrayal were buried beneath the winter snow.
And in the warm, fortified haven of their home, Elena and Dante stood together, unbreakable, untamed, and sovereign over the city they had conquered as one.
