Chapter 6 - The Siege of Villa Salvatore

Two nights later, the thunderstorm rolling over the Alban Hills masked the sound of approaching engines.
Inside the villa's private surgical theater on the lower ground floor, the medical team had just completed the three-hour microscopic laser procedure on little Leo’s ears.
The baby lay in a sterile bassinet, tiny white bandages wrapped around his temples, his breathing calm and rhythmic under mild anesthesia.
Clare sat beside the crib, holding the baby's warm hand, while Maya slept peacefully on a nearby cot.
Suddenly, the villa’s emergency red alarm lights flickered to life without a sound.
Marco stepped into the surgical room, fully geared in tactical Kevlar, carrying an automatic rifle. "Signora, stay down. They breached the outer gate sensor grid."
"How many?" Clare asked, her heart leaping into her throat.
"Twelve vehicles," Marco replied grimly. "Viscari sent his top hit squad. And your husband is with them in an armored transport, demanding custody."
Outside, the quiet night erupted into a ferocious symphony of automatic gunfire and exploding perimeter barriers.
Viscari’s mercenaries had underestimated the villa’s defensive architecture.
High-intensity floodlights illuminated the olive groves, turning the darkness into daylight as the Salvatore family's private tactical soldiers returned fire from reinforced stone pillboxes.
On the grand terrace overlooking the courtyard, Dante stood in the rain, wearing a tactical vest over his black shirt, directing his men with chilling, absolute precision.
A heavy black ram-truck smashed through the secondary iron gate, skidding sideways across the wet gravel.
From the passenger side stumbled Richard Jensen, wearing an expensive trench coat, waving an American federal badge and screaming through a bullhorn into the rain.
"Dante Salvatore!" Richard's amplified voice cracked through the thunder. "I am a United States federal officer! You are harboring an international fugitive and an abducted American child! Surrender Clare Jensen and Maya immediately, or the State Department will declare this an act of war!"
Dante raised a hand, signaling his snipers to hold their fire.
He walked down the sweeping stone staircase into the courtyard, completely exposed to the rain, flanked only by two armed operatives.
"You're a long way from Ohio, Mr. Prosecutor," Dante called out, his baritone cutting effortlessly through the storm.

"Where is my wife?" Richard snarled, stepping forward, his eyes wild with the manic, entitled rage of a bully who had never been told no. "She belongs to me! The court gave me full custody!"
"Your wife died to you the night you put your hands around her throat, Jensen," Dante said, stopping ten feet from the wet bumper. "And this is not Ohio. This is my home."
