Chapter 7 - The Trap Closes

Adrian pulled a digital tablet from his jacket pocket and placed it on the table between them. On the screen was a live video feed from the federal courthouse downtown.
""I don't need to break the law to destroy you,"" Adrian said smoothly. ""Twenty minutes ago, my clean legal team delivered Grant Mercer’s signed confession, Victor’s private ledger, the encrypted USB drive containing your email correspondence with the Macau syndicate, and the surveillance footage of you parking Owen under the sun to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney's Major Crimes Taskforce.""
Natalie’s eyes widened in sheer horror. ""You... you went to the feds?""
""I am a businessman who protects his family,"" Adrian replied calmly. ""You thought my underworld ties were your shield—that I couldn't report you without exposing myself. But you forgot one simple fact: Victor Shaw kept all of your dirty laundry in a separate, isolated file. The evidence against you is completely independent, airtight, and devastating.""
Outside the estate gates, the faint, wailing sound of multiple police sirens began to echo across the quiet suburban hills.
Natalie rushed toward the balcony doors, her hands trembling as she looked down the long winding driveway. Four black-and-white police cruisers, accompanied by two unmarked federal SUVs, were speeding through the open iron gates, their red and blue strobe lights flashing violently against the afternoon heat.
""No... no, no, no! Adrian, please!"" Natalie dropped to her knees, crawling toward him across the hardwood floor, grabbing at the hems of his trousers. ""You can't let them take me! The Macau people will reach me even in prison! They will kill me inside! Please, let me take a private jet to South America! I'll never come back! You'll never see me again!""
Adrian looked down at her with pure disgust, pulling his leg away from her grasp as if she were a venomous insect.
""You left a five-month-old infant to suffocate in a boiling car,"" Adrian said, his eyes burning with absolute finality. ""You didn't care about his cries. You didn't care about his pain. Why should anyone care about yours?""
The heavy sitting room doors opened. Special Agent Miller of the FBI entered, flanked by four armed federal tactical officers and local detectives.

""Natalie Cross?"" Agent Miller said, presenting a federal arrest warrant. ""You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, attempted murder of a minor, grand larceny, and interstate financial extortion. You have the right to remain silent.""
As the cold steel handcuffs clicked around Natalie’s wrists, she began screaming incoherent curses, her designer heels dragging across the floor as the federal agents hauled her away. Adrian stood tall, watching her disappear down the grand staircase, feeling the dark cloud that had hung over his family since Caroline’s death finally begin to lift.
