Chapter 8 - The Capos' Kneeling

Three days later, the mansion hosted another gathering.

This was not a celebratory holiday; it was a mandatory summit of the syndicate’s highest commanders. The grand dining hall had been scrubbed clean of all traces of the previous week's chaos. Fresh winter greenery and white roses filled the room, and the scent of slow-roasted prime rib prepared by a team of five world-class private chefs drifted through the air.

The twenty-two capos sat in their designated places, but the atmosphere was tense, watchful. Rumors of the Falcone takeover had spread like wildfire through the boroughs, but no one knew the internal mechanics of how Dominic had wiped them out overnight.

The double doors opened.

Dominic entered, dressed in a sharp, three-piece charcoal suit. But he did not enter alone.

Beside him walked Clara.

She wore a breathtaking gown of midnight-blue silk, tailored with soft, flowing sleeves that completely concealed her bandaged arms while draping her frame in regal elegance. Her dark hair was swept up in an intricate chignon, secured with diamond pins that had once belonged to the founding matriarch of the Moretti line. She looked radiant, powerful, and undeniably graceful.

Dominic led her not to the side of the table, not to a secondary seat, but directly to the head.

With quiet reverence, the Don pulled out the primary master chair and held it as Clara took her seat. Then, in full view of his most hardened lieutenants, Dominic pulled over a secondary chair and sat immediately to her right.

The capos exchanged wide-eyed glances. The hierarchy had not just shifted; it had been entirely rewritten.

Dominic rested his hands on the table and let his cold gaze sweep across the room.

""Last week, this house was tested,"" Dominic began, his voice echoing with absolute authority. ""Treachery was discovered at the highest level of my inner circle. My sister sought vanity. My mother sought division and treason with our enemies. Both have been stripped of the Moretti name and cast out of our territories permanently.""

A low murmur ran through the men, but no one dared speak.

""The only person in this house who showed the courage, loyalty, and fortitude of a true leader was my wife, Clara,"" Dominic continued, his voice softening with unmistakable pride as he glanced at her. ""While others sought to bleed this family dry, Clara stood guard over our secrets, took the blows meant for our legacy, and held this fortress together with her bare hands.""

Dominic stood, lifting his crystal glass filled with dark red wine.

""From this day forward, Clara speaks with my voice. An insult to her is a declaration of war against me. A command from her is an order directly from the Don. Raise your glasses to Donna Clara Moretti.""

Every single man at the table stood up simultaneously, the scrape of their chairs echoing like thunder. They raised their glasses high toward the head of the table.

""To Donna Clara!"" they roared in unison.

Clara felt a profound warmth bloom in her chest. She looked down the long mahogany table—the same table where she had nearly collapsed in agony three days ago—and saw not threat, but total, unshakeable respect.
