Chapter 10 - A Double Shot of Forever

Emma’s hands flew to her mouth as the velvet box clicked open, revealing a three-carat oval-cut diamond set in a band of hand-machined rose gold—the exact same rose gold that adorned the machine beside her.

“Emma,” Adrian said, his voice echoing across the silent ballroom through the stage microphone. “A month ago, I was surrounded by hundreds of men, billions of dollars, and absolute power, yet I was dying completely alone. You came into my life with grease on your fingers and flour on your apron, and you broke open the lies that were killing me. You taught me that strength isn't about how many enemies you can terrify; it’s about who you’re willing to bleed for.”

Tears of pure happiness spilled down Emma’s cheeks, catching the dazzling chandelier light.

“I don’t want to face another morning in this city without the sound of your laughter in the kitchen,” Adrian continued, his voice thick with raw emotion. “I don’t want an empire unless you’re ruling it beside me. Emma Brooks, will you marry me?”

“Yes!” Emma cried out, her voice ringing with unbridled joy. “A thousand times, yes!”

Adrian surged to his feet, swept his arms around her waist, and lifted her into the air, spinning her around as the entire ballroom erupted into thunderous, deafening applause. Governors, CEOs, and battle-hardened shipping captains cheered at the top of their lungs, raising champagne flutes to celebrate the woman who had conquered the king of Chicago.

Adrian set her down gently and slipped the gleaming ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly. He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her passionately on the stage, sealing their future before the eyes of the entire city.

Six months later, on a crisp, golden autumn morning, the newly constructed Brooks Engineering & Roastery opened its doors along the South Side riverfront.

The facility was breathtaking—a gleaming cathedral of glass, polished brick, and polished stainless steel where forty local apprentices, hired directly from working-class South Side families, trained to manufacture the safest, most precise commercial coffee machines in the world.

In the sunlit corner office overlooking the river, Emma stood behind her personal espresso station, humming a quiet tune. A soft, warm weight settled around her waist from behind, and she leaned back into Adrian’s familiar, solid chest.

Adrian buried his face in her hair, inhaling the sweet scent of fresh roasted coffee and vanilla that was unmistakably hers.

“You’re late for the ribbon-cutting, Mr. Chairman,” Emma whispered, turning in his arms and looping her hands around his neck.

“The city can wait five minutes,” Adrian murmured, pulling her close, his lips brushing against hers. “First, I need my morning espresso from the only barista I trust with my life.”

Emma smiled, kissing him softly, knowing that the bitter poison of the past was gone forever, replaced by a life that was rich, sweet, and overflowing with love."
