Chapter 6 - The Schoolyard Showdown

Two weeks later, the spring sun broke over Manhattan, warming the cobblestone streets outside Saint Jude’s Academy in the Upper East Side.

It was the first day the triplets had returned to school since the siege, and Arya had insisted on walking them to the gates herself.

Dante had agreed, though three unmarked black Suburbans idled discreetly fifty yards down the block, their engines humming low.

Leo, Mateo, and Enzo walked in a tight formation, with Mia skipping happily between them, holding Enzo’s hand.

Mia wore her new private school uniform—a pleated navy skirt and white blouse—looking remarkably proud of her polished leather shoes.

At the ornate iron entrance gates, a group of wealthy private school mothers stood huddled in expensive designer coats, sipping artisan coffees.

Among them stood Victoria Vance, the wife of an influential city councilman, whose son Julian had spent the past year bullying Enzo on the playground.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up," Victoria murmured loudly, casting a cold, patronizing glare at Arya’s simple denim jacket and cotton scarf.

"I heard the Mancini household had another... domestic disturbance last week. One wonders why the administration permits children from such volatile environments to mingle with respectable families."

Enzo shrank back behind Arya's hip, his head dropping toward his chest.

Mateo’s fists clenched, his jaw tightening just like his father’s, ready to lunge at Victoria's sneering son, who was making mocking faces from behind his mother's skirt.

Arya placed a calming hand on Mateo’s shoulder, stepping forward until she stood inches from Victoria Vance.

"Mrs. Vance," Arya said, her voice carrying a crisp, icy authority that turned the heads of every mother on the sidewalk.

"If you have an issue with the Mancini children, you are welcome to address Mr. Mancini directly during his upcoming donor meeting with the school board this afternoon."

Victoria’s painted smile faltered slightly.

"A donor meeting? My husband oversees the school’s municipal zoning permits!"

"And Dante Mancini just purchased the debt bonds for your husband’s commercial development project in Brooklyn," Arya countered smoothly, her gaze unblinking.

"I suggest you teach your son how to apologize to Enzo for stealing his colored pencils before three o'clock. It would be terribly awkward if your husband's construction permits were suddenly recalled for regulatory review."

Victoria gasped, clutching her pearls in utter shock.

The other mothers stepped back, whispering in hushed, nervous tones, suddenly realizing that the quiet woman in the denim jacket wasn't just a nanny—she was speaking with the full, terrifying authority of the Mancini syndicate.

Julian Vance looked at his mother's pale face, then looked over at Enzo, who was standing tall now beside Mia.

"Sorry, Enzo," the boy mumbled, scurrying toward the school steps in humiliation.

Leo looked up at Arya, his dark eyes sparkling with unbridled awe and deep, newfound respect.

"You're scarier than Uncle Marco," Leo whispered with an enormous grin.

Arya winked at the three boys, kissing the tops of their heads as the school bell began to chime.

"Go learn something amazing, boys," Arya laughed. "And remember: Mancini kids never start the fight, but we always finish it."
