Chapter 10 - Justice Served And A Brand New Beginning

Six months later, the autumn air was crisp, bright, and filled with the scent of falling leaves and roasted coffee beans.

I stood on the observation deck of the city's premier aviation hangar, leaning comfortably against a sleek, custom-designed carbon-fiber cane. My right leg was fully healed, the titanium pins successfully removed, and the new ligament graft stronger than ever. The heavy black leg brace was long gone, replaced by a pair of stylish boots and a tailored blazer that commanded immediate respect.

Below me, a dozen junior aviation inspectors and logistics coordinators were bustling around a massive cargo aircraft, conducting routine safety checks under my direct supervision. My independent inspection firm, Torres Aerospace & Security, had just secured a multi-million-dollar federal contract—the largest independent aviation safety deal in the tri-state area.

My life was entirely my own.

My parents had fled the state months ago, disgraced and bankrupt, living in a cheap motel somewhere down south while awaiting trial. Sutton was currently serving a sentence of probation and community service, her social media accounts permanently deleted, her name a cautionary tale whispered among the city's elite. They had tried to reach out to me a dozen times through desperate letters and tearful voicemails, begging for financial assistance or legal intervention.

I hadn't opened a single message. Their numbers remained permanently blocked.

Footsteps echoed softly behind me on the metal grating of the observation deck. I turned around to see Alden walking toward me, holding two cups of coffee from the bakery we both loved. Over the past six months, as we navigated the wreckage of our old lives together, a genuine, deeply supportive partnership had quietly blossomed between us—one built on mutual respect, honesty, and shared survival.

"Inspection report looks pristine, boss," Alden said with a warm, easy smile, handing me a cup of coffee. "The federal auditors signed off on the cargo bays twenty minutes ago. You officially secured the largest contract in the port's history."

I took the cup, leaning back against the railing as I looked out over the sprawling runway where airplanes soared gracefully into the clear blue sky.

"It wasn't easy getting here," I murmured, taking a sip of the warm coffee.

"No, it wasn't," Alden agreed, stepping closer and resting his shoulder gently against mine. "You fought through a nightmare, Fallon. But you built something unbreakable out of the ashes."

I looked down at my legs, strong and steady beneath me, and then out at the horizon where the sun was beginning its golden descent. The past eighteen months of cleaning mansions, hiding hospital bills, and swallowing my own tears felt like a lifetime ago. I was no longer the invisible, abused sister hiding in the background of someone else's perfect story.

I was the author of my own destiny. And for the first time in my life, everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.
