Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Checkmate and a New Beginning

Six months later, the dust over the Las Vegas Strip had finally settled, leaving behind a completely new landscape.

Dante Moretti was currently awaiting trial in a federal penitentiary on multiple counts of corporate fraud, tax evasion, and embezzlement, facing up to twenty years behind bars. His syndicate allies had long since abandoned him, and his name was now nothing more than a cautionary tale whispered in the back rooms of high-stakes poker games.

My parents had moved into a modest, cramped apartment in the suburbs, forced to live on a strict budget for the first time in their lives. Lily was working two jobs just to cover rent and diapers, finally learning what it meant to survive in the real world without a corporate safety net or an older sister to clean up her messes.

And as for me?

I sat at the mahogany conference table on the top floor of the Vance-Bennett Tower, presiding over a board meeting of international investors who treated me not as a trophy wife or a corporate assistant, but as the reigning CEO and majority stakeholder of the most powerful gaming empire in Nevada.

Julian Vance sat to my right, a warm, genuine smile gracing his face as we signed off on a multi-million-dollar community revitalization project for downtown Las Vegas—proving that true power isn't about control or cruelty, but about creation and justice.

When the meeting adjourned and the board members cleared the room, Julian leaned back in his leather chair and looked at me with deep, unwavering affection.

“You know, Claire,” Julian said softly, “six months ago you walked into my office in Zurich carrying enough emotional baggage to sink a battleship. Look at you now. You own the city.”

I looked down at my hands, resting calmly on the polished mahogany table. No rings weighed down my fingers anymore—no wedding bands from a fraudulent marriage, no chains binding me to a toxic family legacy.

I smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that reached all the way to my eyes.

“I didn't conquer the city, Julian,” I replied, standing up and buttoning my tailored blazer with quiet confidence. “I just took back what was mine all along.”

The door to the penthouse office opened, revealing a bright, unobstructed view of the sunlit Las Vegas skyline stretching endlessly toward the horizon.

My past was dead. My future was limitless. And the game was finally won."
