Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Coup

At ten o’clock the following morning, the forty-fifth-floor boardroom of Dunore Holdings was packed with the most powerful men in Atlantic City.
Twelve senior syndicate captains sat around the forty-foot smoked-glass table, flanked by high-priced corporate attorneys and financial advisors.
At the head of the table sat Graham Vale, wearing a fresh tailored navy suit, sipping espresso with arrogant, triumphant satisfaction.
“Gentlemen,” Graham announced, spreading glossy financial folders across the glass surface.
“As you all know, Virgil Dunore suffered a severe security compromise last night at the marina docks.
His whereabouts remain entirely unknown, and local authorities are currently investigating an executive abduction.”
Old Don Moretti, who had driven down from North Jersey for the vote, leaned forward, tapping his gold-headed cane against the floor.
“We cannot allow Dunore Holdings to sit rudderless while the state gaming commission reviews our regional casino licenses,” Moretti rasped.
“The council requires a vote of no confidence against Virgil Dunore, and the immediate appointment of Graham Vale as managing general partner.”
Graham smiled broadly, adjusting his silk tie as he looked around the table at the twelve men who held the destiny of the city.
“I accept the nomination, Don Moretti.
All in favor of ratifying the emergency transition charter, raise your right—”
The heavy oak double doors of the boardroom were kicked off their brass hinges with a thunderous, explosive crash.
The doors flew inward, splintering against the mahogany wall panels as two armed syndicate enforcers stepped through the dust.
Behind them walked Virgil Dunore, pristine in a charcoal bespoke three-piece suit, his hair swept back, looking like an emperor returning from war.
Beside him walked me, dressed in an immaculate cream wool dress, holding an administrative tablet linked to the building’s master display.
The entire boardroom erupted in shocked murmurs, three older captains instantly rising from their chairs in disbelief.
Graham’s teacup slipped from his trembling fingers, shattering against the smoked glass table and splattering dark espresso across the transfer contracts.
“Virgil?” Graham choked out, the color draining from his face until his skin looked like translucent parchment.
“How... how did you get past the lobby security?”
“Your security team works for the man who signs their paychecks, Graham,” Virgil said smoothly, stepping into the room with measured, lethal confidence.
“And last time I checked the corporate registry, every single share of Dunore Holdings still bears my father’s name.”
I walked toward the master presentation podium, plugged my encrypted thumb drive into the interface port, and tapped the activation sequence.
Instantly, the four massive 8K monitors lining the boardroom walls flickered to life, displaying detailed offshore banking ledgers and wire transfer logs.
Every single transaction Graham had routed through Apex Horizon and the Delaware shell accounts was broadcast in crystalline, undeniable clarity.
“Look closely at screen three, Don Moretti,” I announced, my voice ringing clear and authoritative through the silent room.

“Graham didn't just skim thirty percent from the marina construction bonds; he forged your family’s maritime clearance seals to smuggle five million in narcotics through Terminal 4.
He was setting up your North Jersey outfit to take the federal fall while he liquidated the casino assets into private accounts in Zurich.”
