Chapter 9 - The Eviction of Eleanor

The driveway grew quiet once again, save for the distant rumble of the departing police vehicles.
Eleanor stood alone on my porch, her designer clothes disheveled and her polished mask completely shattered into ruin.
She turned toward me, her eyes burning with an ugly, bitter hatred that had simmered for decades.
"You destroyed your own brother," Eleanor hissed, trembling with rage.
"You destroyed this entire family over sixty-four thousand dollars that was spent ten years ago!"
"No, Mom," I answered softly, feeling an immense, liberating weight lift from my shoulders.
"You destroyed this family when you taught Derek that he could steal from his own sister without consequence."
"You enabled his theft, you excused his failures, and you walked into my home expecting me to surrender my children's peace to your golden child."
Daniel walked over to the front door, opening it wide and gesturing toward the driveway.
"Eleanor, your presence on our property is officially terminated," Daniel said, his tone leaving zero room for debate.
"If you ever contact my wife, my children, or set foot on this parcel again, we will file a permanent restraining order with Fulton County Superior Court."
Eleanor glared at both of us, clutching her handbag tightly against her ribs as she realized her reign of terror had ended forever.

She didn't speak another word; she turned on her heels, marched down the stone steps, and climbed into Brenda's idling minivan.
The vehicle sped down our long driveway, disappearing past the wrought-iron security gates that closed automatically behind them.
