Chapter 5 - The Surrender of the Vance Dynasty

Daniel lay sprawled on the boardroom floor, clutching his bleeding nose with trembling, manicured hands, gasping for breath through a haze of shock and terror.

“What... what is this?” Daniel whimpered, staring down at the thick document resting on his bloodstained shirt.

Viktor stepped forward, kicked Daniel’s overturned chair out of the way, and hauled the sniveling executive onto his knees before the table.

“That is an irrevocable, unconditional surrender of all parental rights to Lily Sullivan,” Nicholas explained, his voice returning to that chilling, clinical baritone.

“You are formally disclaiming all paternity, all visitation rights, and all future legal claims to the child. Her surname is officially stripped of the Vance name forever.”

Arthur Vance stepped forward, his aging voice shaking with desperate indignation. “Mr. Maro, please! This is extortion! You cannot force a father to sign away his paternal lineage under physical threat!”

Nicholas slowly turned his gaze toward the patriarch, an eyebrow arching with razor-sharp amusement.

“Lineage, Arthur?” Nicholas asked coldly. “Your firm currently operates on three hundred and eighty million dollars in revolving credit facilities backed by the Maritime Bank of New York.”

Nicholas snapped his fingers twice.

From the doorway, an impeccably dressed corporate attorney carrying a silver briefcase walked into the room, setting a series of legal notices in front of every board member.

“At eight o’clock this morning,” Nicholas continued, holding the entire room captive, “my private investment consortium purchased ninety-two percent of your outstanding commercial debt notes from the primary lenders.”

The board members gasped in collective horror, frantically flipping through the foreclosure notices.

“You defaulted on your debt covenants thirty minutes ago when your liquidity reserves failed our compliance audit,” Nicholas stated with a ruthless smile.

“As of right now, I own Vance Capital Holdings. I own this building, I own the shipping containers sitting on my docks, and I own the mortgage on your family estate in the Hamptons.”

Arthur collapsed back into his chair, clutching his chest as if he were suffering a massive coronary event, his eyes wide with unadulterated panic.

“If Daniel does not sign that document within thirty seconds,” Nicholas added, leaning down until his lips were inches from Daniel’s bruised ear, “I will execute immediate liquidation proceedings. Your family will leave this island with nothing but the clothes on your backs, and I will ensure the SEC indicts both of you for offshore tax evasion by noon.”

“I’ll sign! I’ll sign right now!” Daniel shrieked, scrambling forward on his knees, his hands shaking so violently he could barely hold the gold fountain pen Viktor shoved into his fingers.

Daniel pressed the pen to the paper, scribbling his signature across five separate waiver forms, his blood dripping onto the legal seal.

He pushed the papers back across the glass, sobbing openly like a whipped dog.

“It's done! I signed it! Please... Nicholas, don't destroy my company!”

Nicholas picked up the signed documents, inspected the signatures with calm satisfaction, and handed them to his attorney.

Then, Nicholas looked down at Daniel with an expression of profound, sickening disgust.

“I’m not destroying your company, Daniel,” Nicholas whispered softly. “I’m taking it. Because everything you owned now belongs to the daughter you discarded in the snow.”

Nicholas turned to Viktor. “Revoke Daniel Vance’s executive credentials. Escort him to the lobby, confiscate his company car keys, and ensure he vacates his residential penthouse by two o'clock this afternoon.”

Nicholas buttoned his suit jacket, adjusted his silver cufflinks, and turned his back on the broken remnants of the Vance dynasty.

As he walked toward the shattered double doors, he paused, looking back over his shoulder at the bleeding executive kneeling in the ruins of his boardroom.

“If you ever come within five hundred feet of Ava or Lily again, Daniel,” Nicholas warned, his voice echoing through the silent tower like the striking of an iron bell, “they won't find enough of your body to fill an envelope.”
