Chapter 9 - The NordTech Triumph

One year after the final divorce decree was stamped, the coastal city of Bergen, Norway, was bathed in the endless golden glow of the midnight sun.
The grand opening gala for the NordTech Green Energy Infrastructure Network was taking place at the historic Haakon’s Hall.
Over four hundred international delegates—ambassadors, maritime ministers, and tech titans—gathered beneath the ancient stone arches to celebrate the completion of phase one.
At the center of the main platform stood a towering digital display showing clean energy routing across five European nations, completed three months ahead of schedule.
The master of ceremonies stepped to the podium, tapping the microphone to introduce the keynote speaker.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the woman whose vision, operational brilliance, and unyielding leadership made this historic achievement possible."
"The Chief Executive Officer of Sterling-Hart Global: Elena Sterling!"
The entire hall erupted into a thunderous standing ovation, the applause echoing like ocean waves against the medieval stone walls.
I walked onto the stage wearing a custom-tailored royal-blue silk evening gown that caught the chandeliers in a brilliant shimmer.
My spine was straight, my chin held high, my smile radiant and genuine.
Beside the stage sat my mother, Lady Margaret, holding three-year-old Lily on her lap.
Lily wore a sweet white lace dress and waved her tiny hands excitedly as she saw me at the podium.
"Mommy!" Lily giggled loudly, her voice carrying through the quiet auditorium, making the delegates chuckle with warmth.
I smiled down at my daughter, placing my hand over my heart before addressing the audience.
"True power isn't about making others feel small," I said into the microphone, my voice clear, steady, and carrying effortless authority.
"True power is the courage to stand back up when someone tries to knock you down, and the determination to build something that lifts others up with you."
"Tonight, we didn't just build an energy grid. We proved that integrity, honor, and resilience will always outlast deceit."
The applause that followed shook the rafters.
Later during the reception, Chairman Erik Lindqvist approached me with two glasses of sparkling elderflower water.
"A magnificent speech, Elena," Lindqvist smiled, handing me a glass.
"The Scandinavian board just approved our phase two expansion into the North Sea: an additional eight hundred million euros."
"We are ready, Erik," I replied, clinking my glass against his.
"Our engineering teams mobilized yesterday morning."
Claire, our communications director, walked over with a tablet, leaning in to whisper an update.
"Elena, our New York office sent a brief note regarding the Reynolds bankruptcy proceedings."
"What happened?"
"Sophia Reynolds accepted a plea deal this morning: three years of federal probation and two million in civil restitution," Claire said quietly.
"And Ethan Vance?"
"He’s working as a mid-level logistics dispatcher for a regional trucking company in New Jersey, living in a studio apartment in Hoboken."
I looked at the tablet screen for two seconds, took a sip of my elderflower drink, and handed it back with a serene smile.

"Good," I said softly.
"Let them live the lives they earned."
