Chapter 8 - The Media Storm Hits Wall Street

By seven o'clock the following morning, the financial district was in an absolute frenzy. Patricia’s accidental viral livestream had accumulated over twelve million views overnight, spawning thousands of breakdown videos, reaction commentaries, and corporate analysis threads on social media. Financial journalists had stayed up all night pulling corporate registry filings, quickly connecting the dots between Nathan’s abrupt collapse and the dormant Vance-Blackwell Trust.

The front page of the Wall Street Journal featured a striking split photograph: on the left was Nathan Whitmore, looking disheveled and frantic as he signed the surrender documents on my garden terrace; on the right was an archival portrait of my grandfather, Arthur Vance, standing beside Julian Blackwell's father at the opening of the Manhattan Trade Exchange. The headline read:

**"THE BILLION-DOLLAR CHARADE: How an Imposter CEO Was Stripped of His Empire by the Heiress He Tried to Evict."**

Inside the executive boardroom at our midtown headquarters, the atmosphere was electrifying. The giant illuminated letters spelling out "WHITMORE DEVELOPMENT" had already been dismantled by construction crews before daybreak, replaced by the sleek, polished brass of "VANCE HOLDINGS INC."

I walked into the boardroom wearing a bespoke navy tailored suit, my grandmother’s diamond earrings resting proudly against my ears. As I pushed open the frosted glass doors, thirty-five senior partners, junior analysts, and department heads rose to their feet in unison, applauding with thunderous enthusiasm.

"Welcome home, Chairwoman Vance," Arthur, our veteran Chief Financial Officer, beamed from the head of the mahogany conference table. He wiped a tear from his wire-rimmed glasses and pushed a massive leather portfolio toward my seat. "The municipal harbor contracts have been reassigned and cleared by the state ethics commission. Every vendor who had paused their delivery because of Nathan’s erratic behavior has re-signed with us this morning. The markets have reacted to the leadership change with a nine percent surge in bond valuation."

"Thank you, everyone," I said, raising my hand to quiet the room as I took my seat. "For eleven years, this firm operated under the delusion that arrogance creates value. That era ends today. We are returning to the core principles of integrity, transparency, and sustainable development that my grandfather established fifty years ago. Arthur, please walk us through the asset recovery status."

Arthur cleared his throat and adjusted his tablet. "Nathan Whitmore spent yesterday evening in a budget motel near the airport after his personal debit cards were rejected at three Manhattan hotels. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has officially opened a criminal inquiry into the six million dollars diverted through Vanessa Morales LLC. Warrants for their financial records were signed two hours ago. It is very likely Nathan will face multiple counts of interstate wire fraud before the end of the fiscal quarter."

A murmur of satisfied agreement rippled through the room. Justice in the corporate world is often slow and muffled behind nondisclosure agreements, but Nathan had broadcast his own crimes to the entire world, leaving the authorities with no choice but to act with decisive speed.
