Chapter 7 - The Unsealing of Blood

"Nobody signs anything," I said, my voice cutting through the room with the sharpness of a freshly honed blade.

Gordon rose from his seat, an irritated scowl twisting his features.

"Alister, control yourself! You cannot barge into a formal family board assembly with armed men!"

"Sit down, Gordon," my father commanded, his sharp gaze fixing onto the federal marshals stationed at the exits.

"Alister, what is the meaning of this spectacle?"

I walked to the head of the table, pulling off my leather gloves and tossing them onto the white linen tablecloth.

"Dr. Sterling has the expedited DNA results from the private Fort Lee laboratory," I said, nodding toward the physician.

Dr. Sterling broke the wax seal on the red envelope, sliding the certified analytical certificate directly in front of my father.

"Harold, the probability of paternity between Alister Thorne and the child Annie Bell is ninety-nine point nine nine percent," Sterling stated.

"She is Alister’s biological daughter, and your legitimate, first-born paternal grandchild."

My mother Eleanor gasped, pressing a napkin to her mouth as tears of shock filled her eyes.

"My grandchild..." Eleanor whispered, looking toward the hallway where Annie's little suitcase sat abandoned.

Renata let out a shrill, dismissive laugh, waving her hand aggressively.

"So what if she's his bastard? That changes nothing about the fifty million dollars her thieving mother stole from our family!"

"You're right, Renata," I said, turning to look directly into her mocking eyes.

"It changes nothing about the theft. But this does."
