Chapter 7 - The Master Plan Exposed

I pressed the microphone button on my phone, speaking into the receiver with a tone that was steady, chilled, and unyielding. “You don't have a home here, Lucas. The police have been notified that you are currently violating the formal trespass order. You have two minutes to return to your car before the cruiser around the corner pulls into this driveway.”

“Mom, please!” Lucas cried, dropping to his knees right on the porch where his luggage had stood. He buried his face in his hands, weeping openly. “I didn't know the full extent of what she was planning! I swear to God, Mom! She told me you were getting lonely, that we were going to take care of you, that selling the house would be good for you so you wouldn't have to clean the gutters or worry about taxes! She convinced me that you were just being stubborn because of Dad!”

“And what did you say when she demanded my bedroom, Lucas?” I asked, my voice echoing through the porch speaker. “When she told me to clear out Thomas’s room like an unwanted servant, did you remember that I was your mother? Or did you nod your head and tell me to show your wife some respect?”

Lucas choked on his tears, unable to formulate an answer. The silence that followed was heavy with shame.

“You stood there and watched her treat me like garbage because you thought you were going to get a half-million-dollar payout for a mansion in New Albany,” I continued coldly. “I found the folder, Lucas. I found her blueprint packet. I found her handwritten notes planning to declare me mentally incompetent so you two could seize Thomas’s estate.”

Lucas looked up at the camera lens in pure, paralyzed horror. The color completely drained from his lips. “She... she wrote that down?”

“Every single step,” I replied. “And now every single step is in the hands of the county prosecutor and the fraud investigators at the state attorney general’s office. You made your bed, Lucas, with Chloe. Now you go sleep in it. Get off my property.”

Seeing the absolute finality in my words, Lucas slowly pushed himself up from the concrete. He looked at the heavy front door, realizing for the first time in his pampered life that his mother’s unconditional love was not a bottomless well that could be poisoned without consequence. He stumbled down the front walkway, got into his car, and drove away just as a patrol cruiser rolled slowly down the street.

That evening, the final hammer fell on Chloe.

Faced with impending criminal charges for online fraud and grand theft by deception, and realizing her viral video was about to become the centerpiece of a devastating civil lawsuit, Chloe broke under the pressure. At Robert’s strict legal direction, she was forced to record a complete, unedited public retraction.

Staring into her camera without filters or theatrical tears, her voice shaking with humiliating defeat, she read the statement Robert had drafted:

“I am making this video to formally apologize to Margaret Foster. The statements I made regarding her in my previous post were entirely false and fabricated. Margaret never mistreated us. She offered us shelter out of pure generosity. We attempted to manipulate her, disrespected her home, and lied to the public to solicit money. I deeply regret my actions.”

Within ten minutes of posting the retraction, Chloe deleted all of her social media accounts, disappearing from the internet entirely under an avalanche of public scorn and universal condemnation.
