Chapter 4 - The Tables Turn

Judge Whitmore adjusted her robes and picked up her gold fountain pen. The atmosphere in the courtroom had shifted completely from a lopsided ambush against a defenseless mother to a full-blown criminal reckoning.

""Let us address the pending motions,"" Judge Whitmore said, her tone brisk, lethal, and absolute. ""The petitioner’s motion for primary physical and legal custody of the minor child, Sophie Holloway, is hereby denied with prejudice.""

Grant flinched as if he had been struck across the face.

""Furthermore,"" Judge Whitmore continued, ""the petitioner’s request for exclusive occupancy of the marital residence is denied with prejudice. Effective immediately, I am issuing a temporary restraining order against Mr. Grant Holloway. He will have zero contact, direct or indirect, with Sophie Holloway. He is barred from approaching within one thousand feet of the child, her school, and the marital residence. Any visitation requests in the future will be strictly evaluated only after a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and subject to professional, armed supervision at his sole expense.""

""Your Honor, please!"" Grant pleaded, his voice breaking into a desperate whine. ""She is my daughter! You cannot take my child away from me over a private conversation!""

""You surrendered your moral claim to fatherhood the moment you weaponized that sweet child’s love and terrorized her with threats of prison to serve your narcissistic greed,"" Judge Whitmore replied without a shred of sympathy. ""Now, onto the financial matters.""

I stepped forward to the podium, opening my leather binder. ""Your Honor, if I may.""

""Mrs. Holloway, the court recognizes you,"" Judge Whitmore said, nodding with genuine respect.

""As I noted earlier, Your Honor, my former career was in forensic financial auditing,"" I began, my voice steady, confident, and resonant. ""Over the past ninety days, anticipating that Mr. Holloway would attempt to hide marital assets, I conducted an independent trace on Holloway Logistics’ outgoing wire transfers and general ledger entries.""

I turned a page, holding up a thick stack of color-coded spreadsheets.

""Here are the wire confirmations, Your Honor. Over the last eighteen months, Mr. Holloway systematically funneled three million, eight hundred and forty thousand dollars through seven shell corporations registered in the British Virgin Islands and Delaware. All seven entities list Ms. Natalie Price’s brother, Marcus Price, as the designated registered agent. These transfers were disguised as payments for 'logistical software licensing' and 'fleet consulting.' However, tax filings and server logs confirm that no software exists and no consulting services were ever rendered.""

Grant’s face turned from pale white to an ashen, sickly gray. He spun around and glared furiously at Natalie, who was cowering in the gallery pew.

""You told me she couldn't trace those accounts!"" Grant hissed at her, completely forgetting that the judge and court reporter were watching his every move. ""You swore Marcus had those accounts locked down behind double-blind trusts!""

""Mr. Holloway!"" Judge Whitmore slammed her gavel down so hard the crack sounded like wood splintering. ""You will maintain decorum in this court! Mrs. Holloway, please submit your findings to the clerk.""

I walked forward and handed the pristine, ironclad documentation to the clerk.

""In addition, Your Honor,"" I continued smoothly, ""I have included the financial paper trail regarding Dr. Aris. Exactly twenty-one days ago, a cashier’s check for fifty thousand dollars was drawn from an offshore account tied to 'Blue Horizon Consulting'—one of the dummy entities Mr. Holloway controls. That check was deposited directly into Dr. Aris’s private medical foundation account. Two days later, Dr. Aris submitted his report declaring me unfit.""

Judge Whitmore skimmed through the top pages of my audit report. A dark, terrifying scowl crossed her face. ""This is not merely gross marital misconduct, Mrs. Holloway. This is racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering, and subornation of perjury.""

She looked up at Richard Hale. ""Mr. Hale, do you have any explanation for these transactions?""

Richard Hale held up both hands in surrender, taking another step backward. ""Your Honor, as an officer of the court, I must immediately request leave to withdraw as counsel for Mr. Holloway. I was provided falsified financial affidavits by my client and Ms. Price. I had no knowledge of any bribery or offshore diversion of funds. I refuse to represent a party actively committing fraud upon this court.""

""Motion to withdraw is granted,"" Judge Whitmore stated coldly. ""Mr. Holloway, you are now representing yourself.""

Grant looked around the room, utterly abandoned. His slick attorney had walked away. His mistress was sobbing in terror. His mother was staring at him in horror and disbelief. The empire of lies he had meticulously constructed over two years had completely imploded in less than forty-five minutes.

""Mrs. Holloway,"" Judge Whitmore said, turning to me with a look of profound admiration. ""The court grants you immediate, exclusive possession of the marital home. Furthermore, I am issuing a comprehensive worldwide freeze on all bank accounts, investment portfolios, and corporate entities associated with Grant Holloway, Holloway Logistics, and Ms. Natalie Price.""

Judge Whitmore paused, looking down at the court clerk. ""Mr. Miller, please contact the Hartford District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s White Collar Crime Division. Inform them that Senior Judge Whitmore requires two federal prosecutors in Courtroom 4B immediately. We have active felonies to refer.""
