Chapter 10 - The Sovereign’s Vow

Three months later.

The summer sun beamed down across the turquoise waters of Lake Como, Italy. Gentle breezes swept through the terrace of the private Italian villa, carrying the fragrance of blooming jasmine and lemon trees.

The news outlets had gone wild for weeks. The Ivanov syndicate had been completely dismantled in the largest organized crime sting in American history, while Julian Rourke had stepped down as CEO of Northline Capital, transitioning the financial firm into a fully legitimate international philanthropic trust.

The danger was gone. The shadows had finally retreated.

I stood on the stone balcony overlooking the lake, wearing a flowing white sundress, holding a cup of morning coffee—black, dash of oat milk, no sugar.

Strong, warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind. Julian pulled me gently back against his bare chest. He wore only linen trousers, the morning sun highlighting the carved muscles and battle scars of his torso—the view I had once dreamed about, now belonging to me every single morning.

He kissed the soft curve of my neck, sending a delicious shiver through my body.

“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Rourke?” he murmured, his deep voice heavy with sleep and affection.

I turned in his embrace, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heart. On my finger, the emerald-cut diamond ring caught the Italian sunlight, flashing brilliantly.

“I was just thinking about that rainy Thursday evening at the office,” I teased, a playful smile curling my lips. “When I told Maggie I wanted to see my boss without his suit.”

Julian let out a low, rich chuckle, the sound vibrating against my palms. He leaned down, pressing his lips softly against mine in a kiss that tasted of sweet mornings and forever.

“And?” he asked against my mouth, his gray eyes sparkling with unconditional love. “Did the reality live up to the fantasy?”

I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him down into another deep, passionate kiss.

“The reality,” I whispered against his lips, “is a million times better.”"
