Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

"You were there," Vincent whispered, his chest heaving as the truth hit him like a physical blow. "You saw us."
"I saw everything," I said. "I saw the man who swore to protect me feed my dreams to a stranger."
Arthur Harrison stepped between us, holding a silver fountain pen and a pristine set of court-stamped documents.
"Mr. Moretti, consider yourself formally served," Arthur announced, thrusting the summons into Vincent’s chest. "We are filing an emergency motion for sole legal and physical custody of the unborn children, alongside an immediate freeze on all offshore joint trusts."
Vincent didn't look at the papers in his hands.
He stared at my belly, his breathing ragged and uneven.
"You can't do this, Claire," he choked out, his voice cracking with panic. "I am their father. I built this entire company for our family! Everything I did was to secure our future!"
"No, Vincent," I answered softly. "You built it for your ego. And now you can share it with Sophia."
I walked past him toward the private elevator bank.
Vincent spun around, trying to follow me, but Arthur signaled the two building security guards waiting in the corridor.
They stepped firmly in front of him, blocking his path.
"Touch her and I will have you arrested for assault before you reach the lobby!" Arthur warned.
Vincent watched the elevator doors close between us, his face twisted in utter despair.
Three hours later, Madison and I checked into a private penthouse suite at the Langham Hotel under her mother's maiden name.
My phone buzzed incessantly in my purse.
Twenty-seven missed calls from Vincent.
Twelve voice memos from his mother, Eleanor Moretti, demanding that I return to the family estate immediately to "discuss the scandal like civilized people."
Then, a text message arrived from an unknown international number.
Check your encrypted email, Claire. Sophia isn't who you think she is. And Vincent is walking into a trap.
I sat up on the sofa, my heart hammering against my ribs.
I opened my laptop, entered the secure password, and downloaded an attachment sent through an encrypted Swiss server.
The file contained offshore corporate filings from the Cayman Islands, dated six months prior.
Sophia Reynolds had never been a junior marketing associate.
She was the estranged niece of Marcus Vance—Vincent’s fiercest corporate rival, the man whose hedge fund had been trying to launch a hostile takeover against Moretti Enterprises for three years.
Every dinner Vincent had taken her to, every confidential company folder he had carelessly left on her desk, had been copied and transmitted directly to Vance’s legal team.
Vincent hadn't just ruined his marriage for an affair.

He had handed his father's empire to the daughter of his worst enemy on a silver platter.
And the diamond bracelet he had given her on my birthday was fitted with a high-grade military audio transmitter, recording every private conversation Vincent had conducted in his private study.
