Chapter 6 - The Secret Ally

The following morning, Graham left early for what he called a ""critical business summit"" in Manhattan. He kissed me goodbye at the front door, reminded me to drink the fresh green smoothie he had left in the refrigerator, and told me he would return by evening.

The moment his car cleared the security gates, I dumped the smoothie down the drain, scrubbed the glass clean, and called an Uber.

Thirty minutes later, I walked through the double glass doors of the Boston Legal Aid Society, heading toward a modest corner office on the third floor. Sitting behind a desk piled high with legal briefs was Marcus Campbell—a brilliant, relentless civil litigation attorney who also happened to be one of my favorite former students from twenty years ago.

""Mrs. Hollis?"" Marcus stood up immediately, his broad face breaking into a wide, genuine smile. ""When your text came through this morning, I couldn't believe it. It’s been years!""

He wrapped me in a warm, bear-like hug. Feeling the genuine affection of someone who truly knew me brought sudden, burning tears to my eyes.

""Marcus,"" I said, my voice wavering slightly. ""I need your help. And what I'm about to tell you sounds like the plot of a deranged crime novel.""

For the next forty-five minutes, Marcus listened in stunned silence. I laid out every piece of evidence on his desk: Dr. Whitfield’s chemical lab report confirming Neuro-ReGen 4 in my tea; the cloud video of Graham secretly dosing my cup at dinner; the private investigator's dossier documenting my lineage; and the copied flight itineraries and Swiss commitment papers I had photographed with my phone.

When I finished, Marcus leaned back in his leather chair, his jaw clenched so tight the muscles bulged along his neck.

""That son of a bitch,"" Marcus whispered, his eyes blazing with fury. ""He didn't just commit attempted manslaughter and reckless endangerment. He forged legal medical declarations and engaged in corporate human experimentation. This violates every state and federal statute on the books.""

""Can we arrest him today?"" I asked.

Marcus shook his head slowly, tapping his pen against the desk. ""If we go to the local police right now with just this, his corporate defense lawyers will tie it up in preliminary hearings for months. AstraCore will claim the drug was an experimental supplement you consented to take verbally. They will argue the video shows him adding legal holistic drops. They’ll paint you as confused, and Graham will post bail in two hours.""

""So what do we do?""

""We catch him in a trap he can't buy his way out of,"" Marcus said, leaning forward, a sharp, predatory smile touching his lips. ""Who is the primary medical officer signing off on these trials at AstraCore?""

""A man named Dr. Arthur Keller,"" I replied, remembering the name Graham had hissed over the phone during the storm. ""Graham argued with him last night. Keller seemed nervous about the ethical fallout.""

Marcus immediately pulled up his legal database, typing rapidly. ""Arthur Keller. Chief Medical Officer of AstraCore. He’s sixty-two, has an unblemished thirty-year medical license, and serves on the board of several philanthropic foundations. Men like Keller have everything to lose. Graham is the arrogant money man, but Keller is the scientific engine.""

Marcus picked up his desk phone. ""I have a close contact at the Department of Justice’s Healthcare Fraud Division. We aren't going to just file a police report, Mrs. Hollis. We're going to stage a legal ambush that takes down Graham, Keller, and the entire corrupt foundation of AstraCore in one single blow.""

""What do you need me to do?"" I asked, sitting up straight.

Marcus looked at me with deep respect. ""Tonight, AstraCore is holding their annual private fundraising gala at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. Graham thinks you're at home, fading into a chemically induced haze. But tonight, Eleanor, you are going to be the guest of honor.""
