Chapter 4 - The Tables Turn

""Harrison,"" Gabriel said calmly, not taking his eyes off David's trembling face.
""Y-Yes, Mr. Rossi?"" the hotel manager stammered, frantically wiping sweat from his forehead with a monogrammed handkerchief.
""Cancel the Pierce Vanguard contract effective immediately,"" Gabriel instructed, his voice as cold as falling ice. ""Cut the power to their soundstage. Revoke their banquet permits. And have security escort Mr. and Mrs. Pierce out through the alley service doors. The same doors they expected Noel to use.""
A collective murmur of shock rippled through the room. Chloe let out an outraged shriek, stepping forward with her fists clenched. ""You can't do that! Do you have any idea how much money we paid to book this ballroom? Our donors are here! The mayor is here! You are ruining our lives!""
""No,"" Gabriel countered, his dark gaze sliding toward Chloe with absolute disgust. ""Your husband ruined your lives the day he decided to forge Noel's signature on the intellectual property patents for this charity. Now, get out of my sight before I decide to have my men toss you into the dumpster in that cheap green dress.""
David grabbed Chloe's arm, his face completely pale. ""Gabriel, wait! Let's talk about this like businessmen! There's a million-dollar silent auction scheduled for ten o'clock! If you shut this down, the foundation will default on its operating bonds!""
""I know,"" Gabriel replied simply, a devastating smirk playing on his lips. ""That was the entire point.""
Two towering security officers clad in tactical gear—Rossi's personal security detail, not the hotel staff—stepped forward. Without saying a word, they gripped David and Chloe by their elbows, spinning them around and marching them forcefully toward the service corridor. David tried to pull away, shouting curses and threats, while Chloe wept hysterical tears of pure humiliation, her diamonds clattering against her bare collarbones as the wealthy patrons they had bragged to all evening quickly averted their eyes to avoid being associated with the disgraced couple.
The ballroom fell into dead silence once more. The city's highest-ranking officials and wealthiest investors stood frozen, terrified that Gabriel's wrath might turn toward them.
Instead, Gabriel turned back to Noel.
The terrifying, ruthless crime boss vanished, replaced by an expression of gentle reverence that shocked every witness in the room. He reached down and took Noel's cold hand once more, tracing his thumb over her knuckles.
""Are you all right?"" he asked softly, completely ignoring the two hundred pairs of eyes locked on them.
Noel let out a long, trembling breath she felt like she had been holding for two years. The knot of shame and terror that had lived in her chest since David stole her life finally began to unravel. ""I'm fine, Gabriel. But... you didn't have to buy the entire hotel.""
Gabriel offered a faint, handsome smile that softened the scar on his eyebrow. ""The hotel was an impulse purchase. You mentioned last week that their catering management was incompetent. I merely wanted to ensure you wouldn't have to deal with poor management ever again.""
He turned toward the grand staircase and offered Noel his arm. ""Come. Your dinner is getting cold, and we have a press release to finalize.""
Noel took a deep breath, lifted her chin, and looped her arm through his. She didn't look back at the shattered clipboard, she didn't look at the whispers of the elite crowd who were now bowing their heads in deep respect as she passed. She walked out of the ballroom not as a discarded ex-fiancée or a struggling waitress, but as the woman standing beside the most powerful man in the city.
Down in the subterranean VIP garage, a sleek black Maybach stood waiting with its doors open. As Gabriel helped Noel into the leather interior, Luca slid into the front passenger seat, turning around with a thick manila folder in his hands.
""Boss,"" Luca said in a low voice. ""We just received confirmation from our contacts at the district attorney's office. David Pierce tried to access the Vanguard offshore escrow accounts twenty minutes ago from his mobile phone. He triggered the forensic wiretap.""
Noel's eyes widened. She turned to Gabriel. ""He's trying to move the money out of the country.""

Gabriel settled beside her, pulling a velvet jewelry box from his coat pocket and placing it in her lap. Inside rested a vintage platinum necklace adorned with sapphire stones—the exact family heirloom David had stolen from her grandmother's lockbox during their breakup and claimed to have lost.
""Let him try,"" Gabriel murmured, leaning close to her ear, his voice dark and promising. ""Tonight was just the overture, Noel. Tomorrow, we dismantle everything he has left.""
