Chapter 10 - Beside the Swiss Waters

Four days later, the air was crisp, clean, and filled with the scent of wild mountain pine and blooming edelweiss.

High in the Swiss Alps, overlooking the sapphire expanse of Lake Lucerne, a small stone chapel stood surrounded by rolling green pastures and snow-capped peaks. There were no armed guards, no armored convoys, and no shadows of Chicago’s underworld. Only the warm summer sun and the gentle ringing of distant church bells.

Inside the sunlit courtyard, Claire stood wearing a beautiful blush-pink bridesmaid dress, her face glowing with genuine joy as she held a bouquet of white lilies. Beside her stood Marco, wearing an impeccably tailored navy suit, looking remarkably like a proud uncle rather than a hardened underworld commander.

The small wooden double doors of the chapel opened.

Audrey stepped out into the sunlight.

Her wedding dress was made of exquisite, flowing white lace with high, delicate sleeves. Her left arm was lightly supported by an elegant silk sash, and her injured hand was covered in a pristine, custom-embroidered bridal glove made of the finest French lace—hiding the fading brand beneath an armor of pure beauty.

At the end of the stone aisle, standing beside an elderly Swiss priest, was Victor.

He wore a traditional charcoal tuxedo, his broad shoulders squared, but his eyes were shining with unshed tears as he watched his bride walk toward him.

When Audrey reached the altar, Victor gently took her uninjured right hand into his, raising it to his lips. Then, with infinite gentleness, he cradled her left hand, kissing the lace covering her healing fingers.

“You came back to me,” he whispered, his voice trembling slightly.

“I never left you, Victor,” she replied softly, her eyes shining with absolute love and devotion. “You fought through hell to bring me home. Now, let’s build our paradise.”

The priest spoke the ancient vows in quiet, reverent Latin. When the moment arrived, Victor picked up the diamond ring from the velvet cushion held by Claire. Slowly, carefully, ensuring not to cause even the faintest twinge of discomfort, he slid the heavy stone onto her ring finger, right where it had always belonged.

“I pronounce you husband and wife,” the priest declared with a warm smile. “You may kiss the bride.”

Victor wrapped his arms around Audrey’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and leaned down to kiss her. It was a kiss that erased every shadow of the past, sealing their future with an unbreakable bond of loyalty, love, and redemption.

As they broke apart, Audrey buried her face in the crook of his neck, laughing with pure relief as the Swiss sun bathed them in golden light. Chicago was far behind them, the monsters were dead, and the mob boss had finally found his peace in the arms of the only woman who owned his soul.
