Chapter 6 - The Unraveling

Downstairs on the forty-fifth floor of Sterling Tower, the executive boardroom was packed with high-profile board members and prominent legal advisors. Richard Sterling sat at the head of the long obsidian conference table, adjusting his gold cufflinks, exuding an air of supreme confidence. Victoria sat to his right, reviewing a thick stack of legal filings designed to seize temporary conservatorship of Julian’s estate.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Richard announced, clearing his throat and projecting an air of solemn grief. “We all saw the bizarre, disturbing display at last night’s gala. My brother’s condition has deteriorated into severe psychiatric instability. He is endangering the company’s valuation, bringing unidentified children into corporate spaces, and refusing psychiatric intervention. We must invoke Section 12-B immediately.”

Several board members nodded solemnly, swayed by the media circus and Richard’s calculated demeanor.

“If there are no objections,” Victoria added smoothly, presenting the signature document, “we will proceed with the immediate transfer of voting control to Richard Sterling as acting Chief Executive Officer.”

“I have an objection,” a deep, resonant voice echoed through the boardroom.

The heavy double doors swung wide. The entire room went dead silent.

Julian Sterling walked into the boardroom. He carried no cane, leaned on no aide, and utilized no wheelchair. Dressed in a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, his posture immaculate and his stride powerful, he moved with the predatory grace of an apex predator returning to reclaim his territory. Flanked by Marcus Kane and four armed federal marshals in plainclothes, Julian walked straight toward the head of the table.

Richard froze, the pen slipping from his fingers and clattering against the glass table. Victoria’s face drained of color as she instinctively shrank back into her leather chair.

“J-Julian...?” Richard stammered, his voice jumping an entire octave. “You... you shouldn't be walking. The doctors said—”

“The doctors you paid off said I would never walk again, Richard,” Julian said calmly, stopping at the head of the table. He didn't raise his voice, yet the chill in his tone commanded absolute obedience. “Just like the doctors who certified Clara’s death while she was still breathing in a farmer’s barn.”

Murmurs of shock rippled across the board members.

“Julian, this is insane!” Victoria blurted out, her voice shrill with mounting desperation. “He is hallucinating! Board members, call security right now!”

“Security answers to me, Victoria,” Marcus Kane interjected, stepping forward and plugging a flash drive directly into the boardroom’s master multimedia terminal.

The massive digital wall screen illuminated instantly. Documents, bank wire receipts, audio recordings, and encrypted emails flooded the screen.

“What you are viewing,” Julian declared, his piercing gaze locking onto his brother, “is seven years of forensic evidence meticulously gathered by Clara Sterling before she passed. It details the offshore payments made by Richard Sterling and Victoria Vance to tamper with flight controls in Aspen. It includes bank statements showing monthly payouts to the private nurse who systematically laced my daily tea with heavy-metal neurotoxins designed to induce lower-body motor paralysis.”

Gasps exploded across the room. Several board members stood up in outrage, backing away from Richard and Victoria as if they carried a fatal contagion.

“It's a lie!” Richard shouted, jumping up from his chair, his eyes wild with terror. “She fabricated it! She was crazy!”

“The federal grand jury didn't think so,” Marcus said coldly. “Two United States prosecutors signed your arrest warrants twenty minutes ago. The building is surrounded.”
