Chapter 6 - The Metamorphosis

The dawn crept over the Sandoval estate in pale shades of lavender and silver. For twelve hours straight, Marisol and Héctor sat side-by-side in the private library, cross-referencing the micro-chip files with the port shipping manifests. Every hour that passed exposed deeper rot: Silvio had orchestrated illegal arms shipments through Terminal 4, forging Ilona’s signature on port clearances to frame the Sandoval family if the federal authorities ever launched a raid.
By 2:00 PM, Marisol pushed back her chair, rubbing her burning eyes. ""Every single shipment corresponds to Silvio’s offshore shell company in the Cayman Islands. If you present this to the port authority and the syndicate council tonight, Silvio is finished legally and practically. His own capos will turn on him for stealing the syndicate reserve funds.""
Héctor looked at her, his expression unreadable. ""Presenting numbers on a screen won't be enough. The syndicate council only respects strength, lineage, and dominance. Silvio will arrive at the gala surrounded by his armed lieutenants and the city's corrupt judges. If I accuse him, it has to be a total, public execution of his reputation before he can draw a weapon.""
""Then we deliver it in the only way that cannot be denied,"" Marisol said, pointing toward the shoebox on the side table. ""We let the bride from 2011 walk into the ballroom.""
Héctor stared at her. ""Beatrix is in hiding in France. Bringing her here would be signing her death warrant.""
""We don't need Beatrix,"" Marisol replied softly. ""We need her ghost.""
At 4:00 PM, a team of high-end stylists and dressmakers arrived at the estate under Teodoro Ainsley's strict supervision. They were brought into the master guest suite where Marisol stood by the floor-to-ceiling mirror.
When Héctor stepped into the room two hours later, he stopped dead in his tracks.
The plain, exhausted probate clerk with the messy ponytail and oversized damp coat had vanished. Standing in the center of the chandelier-lit room was a vision of absolute, breathtaking majesty. The cream silk wedding dress, expertly adjusted and pressed, draped over Marisol’s slender figure with regal precision. The fitted waist emphasized her poise, while the vintage collar framed a graceful neck adorned with the Sandoval family heirloom—a teardrop diamond necklace that Héctor’s mother had worn on her wedding day.
Her dark hair was swept up into an intricate, elegant chignon, secured with silver pins. Her makeup was striking: subtle smoky eyes that highlighted her sharp intelligence, and bold, crimson lipstick that demanded absolute reverence.
She turned to face him, holding her head high. She wasn't just beautiful; she possessed a commanding, aristocratic presence that made high-fashion models look like cheap imitations.
Héctor took three slow steps into the room, his eyes dark with an intensity that made the air between them crackle. ""You look..."" He hesitated, a rare loss of words paralyzing his sharp tongue.
""Like a woman who isn't afraid to settle an estate,"" Marisol offered, a slight, knowing tilt to her lips.
""No,"" Héctor whispered, coming to a halt just inches from her. He reached out, his warm, calloused fingers gently brushing against the side of her neck, lifting the teardrop diamond so it rested against her collarbone. His touch sent a shiver through her entire core, catching her breath in her throat. ""You look like the queen this house has been waiting for for sixteen years.""
May you like
Marisol felt her heart beat wildly against her ribs, but she held his gaze. ""Let’s remember our deal, Mr. Sandoval. We are walking into that ballroom to expose Silvio and avenge my sister. Don't go falling in love with your accountant.""
Héctor’s lips curved into a wicked, devastating smile. ""That, Miss Vane, might be the only calculation you get wrong tonight.""
