Chapter 10 - Justice Served And Fallon’s New Beginning

One year after the day my sister tried to break me on a marble staircase, the sun shone warmly through the large glass windows of my newly expanded engineering laboratory.

The walls were lined with industry awards, patent certificates, and framed blueprints of aerospace designs bearing my name at the very top. My knee still ached slightly when the weather turned cold, but the pain was no longer a symbol of weakness or abuse—it was a reminder of survival, resilience, and the day I finally chose myself over everyone else’s expectations.

My phone buzzed on my desk. I picked it up, expecting an email from a new corporate client.

Instead, it was an automated banking alert notifying me that the final installment of court-mandated restitution from the civil lawsuit had been successfully deposited into my business account. The chapter of financial theft and emotional manipulation was officially closed, legally and permanently.

My office door opened softly, and Vesper poked her head in, holding two cups of artisanal coffee and a box of celebratory pastries.

“Got a minute for your favorite legal counsel, CEO Fallon?” Vesper teased, walking in and setting a pastry on my desk.

“Always,” I laughed, spinning my executive chair around. “What brings you by? Did another corrupt contractor try to mess with our filings?”

“Not a chance,” Vesper smiled warmly, sitting across from me. “I just stopped by to remind you that tonight is the annual Women in Engineering Innovation Gala, and as the keynote speaker, you are expected to look fabulous and give a speech that will probably inspire half the young engineers in the state.”

I looked down at my reflection in the polished glass of my desk. I was wearing a sharp, elegant emerald-green blazer that commanded respect, my posture straight, my footing completely steady.

“I’m ready,” I said with a confident smile.

For thirty-four years, I had been told to step aside, to stay quiet, to let others take the spotlight while I picked up the pieces of their broken promises. But as I stood up from my desk, walking tall and strong toward the office doors, I knew one thing for certain: I wasn't just walking into a banquet hall tonight. I was walking into a future I had built entirely with my own hands, where no one would ever push me down again."
