Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year after the night in the kitchen, the gardens of the Blackwood estate were bathed in the golden glow of a late afternoon sun.

White rose arches lined the stone pathway leading to the marble gazebo overlooking the lake. The grand house, once dark and shrouded in the cold secrets of an underworld syndicate, was alive with laughter, soft orchestral music, and the bright chatter of close friends and trusted allies.

Kieran had made good on his promise to dismantle his family's illegal enterprises. Over the past twelve months, with the help of federal monitors and elite legal counsel, he had transitioned eighty-five percent of his holdings into legitimate clean energy, real estate development, and medical philanthropy. The Blackwood Children’s Oncology Pavilion at Mount Sinai was already under construction.

I stood before the full-length mirror in the master bedroom, smoothing down the ivory silk of my wedding gown. The lace sleeves were delicate, trailing down to my wrists, and my hair was pinned up with fresh jasmine blossoms.

A knock sounded at the door, and the knob turned.

Kieran stepped into the room. He wore an impeccably tailored black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, looking every bit the devastatingly handsome king who had stolen my heart.

He stopped in his tracks, his breath catching in his throat as his eyes swept over me.

"You look... magnificent, Saraphina," he murmured, his voice thick with raw devotion.

"You're not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony," I teased, turning to face him with a smile.

"I don't follow rules, Mrs. Blackwood," he said softly, walking over to close the distance between us. He gently placed his hands on my waist, pulling me close against him. "Especially rules that keep me away from you."

"Are you ready for this?" I asked, looking up into his gray eyes. "A real wedding. A real life. No more secrets, no more shadows?"

"I have spent my whole life living in the dark, Saraphina," Kieran answered, brushing a stray curl from my forehead with infinite tenderness. "You showed me that there is light worth fighting for. Every breath I take belongs to you and our boy."

Right on cue, the bedroom door burst open.

Leo came running in, dressed in a tiny miniature tuxedo that matched Kieran's, followed closely by a bounding, fluffy golden retriever with a yellow ribbon around its neck.

"Mommy! Daddy! Dr. Vance said it's time to walk!" Leo announced proudly, holding up the small velvet pillow carrying our wedding bands. "I have the rings! Barnaby didn't eat them!"

Kieran laughed, scooping our son up with one arm while keeping his other arm wrapped securely around my waist. "Good job, wingman. Let's go make this official."

We walked down the grand staircase together, stepping out into the radiant sunshine of the garden. As our guests rose to their feet, applause and cheers broke out across the lawn.

I looked up at Kieran, feeling the deep, unbreakable safety of his presence. The nightmare was over. The debt was paid, not with money, but with a fierce, unconditional love that had healed us all.

Under the summer sky, hand in hand with the man who had saved my world, I took my first step into our forever.
