Chapter 8 - The Social Media Collapse

While my parents were drowning in legal quicksand, Paisley decided that the best way to handle felony grand larceny charges was to mount an aggressive public relations campaign. She had always believed that social media was a magic wand capable of rewriting reality, provided you used the right filters and cried convincingly enough.

Two days after Arthur’s confrontation at the museum, Paisley posted a twenty-minute video across all her platforms. Titled “My Own Sister Is Trying To Put Me And My Unborn Baby In Prison,” the video was a masterclass in narcissistic manipulation. Sitting in what was once my beautifully renovated attic studio, bathed in soft ring light, Paisley wore an oversized pastel sweater with no makeup, clutching a plush teddy bear to her chest.

“Hey guys… I never thought I would have to make a video like this,” she began, her voice cracking as a single, perfectly timed tear rolled down her cheek. “My family is living through a living nightmare. As many of you know, I’m bringing sweet baby Ember into this world alone. I came home to heal and nest. But my older sister, Audrey, has harbored deep, toxic jealousy toward me our entire lives. Because I’m having a baby and she is alone, she snapped.”

She went on to fabricate an astonishing narrative. According to Paisley, I had voluntarily gifted her the master attic suite, offered to purchase the luxury nursery furniture as an apology for years of sibling rivalry, and then maliciously called the police to stage a viral arrest when she arrived at the store. She claimed I was trying to bankrupt our aging parents and throw a pregnant woman onto the streets out of pure spite.

Within twelve hours, the video went viral on TikTok and Facebook, amassing over two million views. Paisley’s follower count exploded from two hundred and fifty to nearly one hundred thousand. Influencer comment sections were flooded with outrage. Strangers began hunting down the museum's social media accounts, leaving hundreds of one-star reviews demanding that “the heartless monster Audrey Vance” be fired immediately.

Paisley had even launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Legal Defense & Safe Nursery for Baby Ember,” which had already pulled in nearly fourteen thousand dollars from sympathetic strangers who bought into her tragic single-mother narrative.

She thought she had won. She thought the court of public opinion would bully me into silence.

What Paisley failed to realize was that you never pick a public fight with someone whose career is built on forensic documentation and unassailable evidence.

With the full approval of the museum’s legal team and Detective Miller, I didn't engage in an emotional shouting match online. Instead, I created a single, public rebuttal post on Facebook and YouTube, titling it: “The Receipts: The Truth About Paisley Vance and the $15,500 Fraud.”

I didn't offer opinions; I provided undeniable timestamps.

I uploaded the high-definition security footage provided by Heritage Crest Luxury Interiors, showing Paisley arrogantly demanding the transaction go through, laughing with Pamela while presenting forged signatures, and explicitly claiming I was dying in an intensive care unit. Next, I displayed the sworn police report detailing the stolen credit cards found in Pamela's purse. Then came the certified financial statements: thirty-six months of fifteen-hundred-dollar wire transfers from my account, juxtaposed against the foreclosure notices my father had hidden. Finally, I posted the time-stamped photographs of my destroyed nineteenth-century drafting table lying in the rain, taken an hour before Paisley claimed I had “lovingly offered” her the room.

The internet’s turnaround was swift, brutal, and unforgiving.

Within three hours of my post, the narrative completely flipped. Prominent commentary channels picked up the receipts, dissecting Paisley's lies second by second. The comments under Paisley's viral video turned into a roasting pit of disgust and outrage. Thousands of users reported her GoFundMe for fraudulent fundraising based on false pretenses. By midnight, the GoFundMe campaign was officially terminated, the funds were frozen for refund to the donors, and Paisley’s accounts were banned across two major platforms for violating community guidelines on fraud and harassment.

She wanted to be famous. Instead, she became a national laughingstock.
