Chapter 7 - The Grand Celebration

On Friday morning at ten o'clock, the atmosphere inside the executive boardroom of Bellamy Freightways on River Road was intoxicating.
Catering staff in black vests moved between silver chafing dishes, serving smoked salmon, champagne, and chocolate-covered strawberries to forty of the most prominent logistics executives in Savannah.
Quinton Bellamy stood at the center of the room, wearing a custom navy Brioni suit that cost five thousand dollars, holding a crystal flute of vintage Dom Pérignon.
Beside him stood Valentina, radiant in a white silk designer jumpsuit, her dark curls tumbling over bare shoulders, showing off a four-carat diamond ring Quinton had charged to the corporate treasury two days earlier.
Forest stood beside his father, laughing loudly as he clinked his glass with three junior board members.
"To the future of Bellamy Global Logistics!" Quinton announced, raising his glass toward the panoramic glass windows that overlooked the bustling river terminal below.
A chorus of cheers echoed across the room.
"Today marks the beginning of our new era," Quinton declared, flashing his practiced executive smile. "We have restructured our domestic overhead, eliminated unnecessary liabilities, and streamlined our leadership."
Valentina leaned in, kissing Quinton’s cheek affectionately. "And we are signing the thirty-million-dollar maritime expansion contract with Atlantic Freight at noon today, darling."
"Indeed we are, sweetheart," Quinton beamed, patting her hand.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a resounding thud.
The room went instantly quiet.
Two armed Chatham County sheriff deputies stepped inside, followed immediately by Arthur Vance, Evelyn Shaw, and a team of six forensic auditors carrying heavy black leather binders.
Behind them walked a woman in a bespoke midnight-blue cashmere coat, her silver-streaked hair styled into an elegant French twist, wearing a vintage triple-strand pearl necklace that had belonged to the Mercer family for three generations.
Quinton’s champagne flute slipped from his fingers.
The crystal shattered against the imported Italian marble tiles, sending foaming wine across Valentina’s white designer shoes.
"Rosalie?" Quinton choked out, his voice cracking into a dry, humiliated rasp.
Valentina jumped back with an angry shriek, clutching Quinton’s arm. "Quinton! Who is this woman? Why is she interrupting our celebration?"
Forest stepped forward, his face flushed with immediate fury. "Mom! What kind of pathetic stunt is this? Did you hire these actors with your motel money?"

Evelyn Shaw took two crisp steps forward, pulling an official court credential from her leather folder.
"I am Evelyn Shaw, Senior Managing Partner of Sterling, Vance & Caldwell," she announced, her voice ringing across the silent room like a cathedral bell. "And this is Mrs. Rosalie Mercer Bellamy, Sole Trustee and Managing Director of the Mercer Coastal Logistics Master Equity Trust."
