Chapter 3 - The Web Unravels

While forensic teams secured the Kentucky crime scene, Detective Brennan dispatched two squads of detectives to execute emergency search warrants at Grant’s luxury penthouse in downtown Cincinnati and Margaret’s suburban estate.
Savannah was sitting on the velvet sofa in the penthouse living room, weeping hysterically while packing baby clothes into a designer tote bag, when detectives breached the front foyer with an emergency seizure warrant.
"Where is Grant?" Detective Brennan asked, stepping over scattered designer shoes and open travel brochures for the United Arab Emirates.
"He... he left two hours ago," Savannah sobbed, holding her belly with trembling hands. "He told me to pack light and wait for his call. He took the black SUV and emptied the wall safe in his dressing room."
Detective Brennan signaled his team to search the master closet. Behind a false wall panel concealing Grant's personal vault, officers found three burner cell phones, stacks of bundled hundred-dollar bills totaling nearly four hundred thousand dollars, and a small metal lockbox.
Inside the lockbox was a pharmacist-grade amber vial containing concentrated potassium chloride—an odorless, tasteless chemical compound that causes fatal cardiac arrest when slipped into liquid.
The serial lot number on the prescription label matched the exact batch that had killed my father, Arthur Sterling, six months earlier.
Even more damning was a digital backup drive tucked inside the velvet lining of the box. Technicians plugged it into a portable reader and found a collection of saved internet browser histories, login keyloggers, and IP spoofing software.
Grant had intentionally used our home Wi-Fi network and my secondary laptop to research lethal dosages of potassium chloride, deliberate methods to mimic natural elderly heart failure, and forged medical power-of-attorney documents.
He had framed me with surgical precision, ensuring my digital footprint took the blame while he positioned himself to inherit my father’s sixty-million-dollar real estate empire.
Down in Margaret’s estate, officers discovered something equally horrific. In her cedar-lined basement closet sat a locked vanity box containing Tessa Marlow’s original birth certificate, wedding bands, and jewelry that Grant had reported stolen five years ago for a seven-figure insurance payout.
Margaret had kept the dead woman’s jewelry as personal trophies, convinced her family’s blue-blooded status placed them far above the law.

When state troopers clicked the handcuffs around Margaret’s wrists, she shrieked and cursed, clawing at the wallpaper as her pristine society facade shattered into pieces.
"My son is a genius!" she screamed like a cornered banshee. "You can't touch us! The Sterling fortune belongs to him! He did what had to be done to save our bloodline!"
