Chapter 3 - The Trap Closes Live

Fiona’s phone was still broadcasting. Over one million viewers watched the high-definition feed as I walked directly toward the family that had orchestrated my midnight arrest.
"Elena...?" Mother stammered, standing up so quickly her designer handbag tumbled from her lap, spilling cosmetics across the floor. "What... what are you wearing?!"
"Fiona, keep the camera rolling," I commanded, my voice cold, resonant, and steady. "Your viewers deserve to see how this story actually ends."
Fiona’s arm began to shake, her eyes darting between my gold federal badge and the armed marshals leveling their sights on Marcus.
Marcus backed away toward the ATM machine, his face turning an unsightly shade of green. "There's... there's been an administrative error. Chief Henderson! What is the meaning of this?!"
Chief Henderson stepped out from behind the marshals, holding a certified warrant stamped with the gold seal of the United States District Court.
"Marcus Bennett," Henderson read, his voice trembling with shame and terror. "Arthur Vance, Eleanor Vance, Fiona Vance. By order of the Federal Oversight Task Force, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit bank fraud, interstate wire fraud, suborning perjury, and cyber-stalking of a federal agent."
A chorus of horrified gasps erupted from my parents.
"Federal agent?!" Father shouted, pointing a trembling finger at my chest. "She’s my daughter! She’s an accountant at an insurance company!"
"I was an undercover financial auditor detailed to the Midwestern Probate Racketeering Task Force, Dad," I said, stepping right into his face. "My entire 'insurance job' was a cover identity established four years ago when Grandpa discovered that Marcus Bennett was systematically stealing estates from vulnerable widows across the state."
Mother let out a piercing, hysterical shriek. "Charles set us up?! That miserable old bastard tricked his own daughter?!"
"Grandpa loved you, Mother," I replied, my eyes burning with profound, sorrowful disgust. "He spent his final years hoping that when faced with a five-million-dollar choice, you would choose family over greed. But the moment his heart stopped, you met with Marcus to forge conservatorship documents."
Agent Miller stepped behind Marcus, snatching the leather briefcase from his grip and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his manicured wrists.
"No! Wait! I have attorney-client privilege!" Marcus yelled, thrashing violently as two marshals shoved him face-first against the precinct wall.
"Attorney-client privilege does not protect the commission of active wire fraud, Mr. Bennett," Miller stated calmly, opening the briefcase to reveal the forged bank affidavits and pre-signed transfer slips. "Especially when your private cloud server was mirrored by our cyber division three weeks ago."
Fiona stared at her phone screen, where the live chat was exploding in absolute pandemonium:
SHE’S A FEDERAL AGENT?!
THE WHOLE FAMILY JUST GOT BUSTED ON 4K!
FIONA’S GOING TO JAIL ON HER OWN LIVESTREAM LMAO!
A female marshal stepped up to Fiona, grabbing the phone stabilizer from her paralyzed hand and placing it on the reception counter, keeping the lens pointed directly at her face.
"Hands behind your back, Fiona," the marshal ordered, clicking the handcuffs shut with a sharp, heavy snap.
Fiona burst into hysterical tears, the makeup running down her face in messy black streaks. "Elena! Please! I'm your sister! I only did what Mom told me to do! Don't let them take me to prison!"

I looked at the girl whose birthday parties I had planned, whose college tuition I had helped cover, and felt no anger—only a vast, hollow emptiness.
"You brought one million people to watch my ruin, Fiona," I whispered softly. "It is only fair they watch yours."
