Chapter 10 - The Queen Takes Her Throne

One year later.
The summer breeze drifted off Boston Harbor, carrying the scent of salt water and blooming hydrangeas across the private lawn of the Rowan estate.
The wedding had been private, intimate, and breathtaking. Surrounded only by Walter, close friends, and the dedicated workers who had built Harbor Point, Maren and Silas had exchanged vows beneath an arbor of white roses overlooking the glistening ocean.
Maren wore an ethereal, draped silk gown, radiant, untouchable, and filled with a peace that lit her up from within.
Walter sat in the front row, wiping away tears of joy, his heart completely healed by the knowledge that the family legacy was safe in the hands of the daughter of his heart.
Later that evening, after the guests had departed to dance under fairy lights strung across the terrace, Silas led Maren up to the top floor of the newly completed Harbor Point Tower.
The entire city of Boston was spread out before them like a blanket of golden stars. The docks were alive with ships, the skyscrapers gleamed in the twilight, and the name Rowan-Kessler was illuminated in elegant script across the pinnacle of the harbor.
Silas stood behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting lightly on top of her head as they looked out over the empire they had built together.
""You remember four years ago?"" Maren whispered, leaning back into his solid, comforting warmth. ""When Nolan walked through that door and told me to move out?""
Silas pressed a soft kiss to her temple. ""I remember getting a text from a woman who was too proud to let a fool break her spirit.""
""I used to think my life was defined by survival,"" Maren said, her fingers resting over Silas’s strong hands at her waist. ""That pretending was the only way to keep from drowning.""
""You were never pretending, sweetheart,"" Silas murmured, turning her gently in his arms so she was looking into his eyes, where love and adoration burned brighter than any city skyline. ""You were just waiting for the right stage to show them who you really are.""
Maren smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their past, their present, and an unbreakable future.

The girl who had once been an abandoned orphan, the wife who had been left behind in an empty house, was gone.
In her place stood the undisputed queen of Boston, standing beside her king, reigning over an empire that no one could ever take away."
