Chapter 10 - The Right Number

Lucian dropped to one knee on the teak terrace, thirty-four stories above the city that bowed to him, holding open the box.

Inside rested a stunning, vintage-cut emerald ring surrounded by a halo of brilliant-cut diamonds—magnificent, architectural, and completely unique.

“Harper Delaney,” Lucian said, his voice raw with heartfelt emotion. “You are the only person who ever looked past my empire, past my reputation, and dared to tell me the absolute truth. You are my home, my peace, and my entire world. Will you marry me?”

Tears spilled over my cheeks—not the tears of heartbreak in a cheap liquor store parking lot, but tears of overwhelming, radiant joy.

“Yes,” I breathed, laughing through my tears. “Yes, Lucian. A thousand times yes.”

He rose, sliding the ring onto my finger before sweeping me into his arms and kissing me with a passion that made the entire world fade away. When he finally set me down, his eyes were shining with pure happiness.

“There is just one condition,” he murmured, a wicked, familiar smirk playing on his lips.

I wiped a tear from my cheek, smiling up at him. “Oh? And what’s that?”

Lucian pulled his sleek, custom smartphone from his pocket and pressed it into my hand.

“From this moment forward, my private satellite line is permanently assigned to you,” he whispered, his eyes dancing with amusement. “Whenever you feel the urge to curse at the world, Harper... make sure you dial the right number.”

I laughed, wrapping my arms around his neck, leaning in to kiss the mafia king who had stolen my heart.

“Trust me, Lucian,” I murmured against his lips. “I’m never missing a digit again.”"
