Chapter 10 - A Garden in the Sunlight

Two years later, the morning sun poured warmly over the rolling green hills of a private estate in Tuscany. The brutal, soot-stained streets of Chicago were thousands of miles away, left in the capable hands of Marco and an ironclad administrative council. Vincent had officially stepped back from the violent front lines of the underworld, transitioning the family empire into legitimate international shipping, wine production, and global real estate.
On the sun-drenched stone patio, a small, dark-haired girl with bright hazel eyes squealed with pure delight as she chased a golden retriever puppy across the lawn. Around her delicate neck hung the antique Moretti gold locket—restored to its rightful place, passed down to the true and beloved heiress of our family, little Elena.
"Slow down, my little whirlwind!" Vincent laughed, jogging lightly across the grass. He scooped Elena up into his arms, tossing her into the air as she dissolved into fits of giggles.
Looking at him now, it was hard to recognize the cold, ruthless don who had once prioritized another woman's guilt-ridden demands over his own wife. His dark hair was slightly longer, his eyes carried a soft, radiant peace, and his entire existence revolved around the two women who held his soul. Every single day of the past two years, Vincent had courted me as if we were falling in love for the very first time. He had learned my fears, wiped away my tears, and built a sanctuary where my voice was the law and my happiness was his sacred duty.
Sophia and Noah were distant memories, comfortably provided for in a private estate half a world away, completely severed from our lives by impenetrable legal and physical boundaries. Noah would have an education and a future, but Vincent had never looked back. His devotion was singular, ferocious, and permanent.
Vincent walked back toward the patio, carrying Elena on his broad shoulders. He approached where I was sitting, reading a book under the shade of a flowering wisteria canopy. He leaned down, placing a warm, lingering kiss on the top of Elena's head before kneeling beside my wicker chair.
His eyes locked onto mine with that intense, unshakeable adoration that made my heart flutter just as intensely as it had on the day we met. He reached out, his warm, strong hand gently resting over my stomach, where our second child—a son, our future boy—was already growing strong.
"Are you happy, my love?" he murmured softly, kissing the back of my hand with the reverence of a man who knew he had been granted heaven after surviving hell.
I smiled, letting my fingers tangle in his hair, feeling the deep, unbreakable peace that had finally blossomed from the ashes of our past.

"I am home, Vincent," I replied softly.
He pulled me into his arms, our daughter giggling happily between us, as the Tuscan sun bathed our family in a golden, enduring light that no shadow could ever touch again.
