Chapter 9 - The Final Ledger

Roman raised an eyebrow at his wife, clearly intrigued by her sudden intervention. "No deal?"

Corinne stood up from the executive chair, walking over to the wide glass window overlooking the bustling Miami port below.

The afternoon sun turned the Atlantic Ocean into a shimmering sheet of liquid gold.

"Everett’s suppliers aren't the big fish here, Roman," Corinne explained, turning back to face the two men.

"I dug deeper into the Harbor Ridge parent company this morning while the board was signing their papers."

She pulled up a digital presentation on the massive wall monitor, highlighting an intricate corporate network.

"The money didn't stop in the Caymans," Corinne revealed, pointing to a prominent shipping conglomerate in Europe. "Everett was selling the logistics blueprints of every major port on the Eastern Seaboard."

Matteo let out a low whistle of astonishment. "That’s high treason."

"Exactly," Corinne said, her eyes flashing with cold determination. "If the DOJ offers him a deal, the foreign buyers will wipe out the evidence before the trial starts."

Roman looked at the screen, then looked back at Corinne, absolute pride burning in his eyes.

"So how do we bury him completely?" Roman asked, completely yielding strategic command to his wife.

"We hand the DOJ the master decryption key tonight," Corinne said with a ruthless smirk. "The one Everett thought was in the Wolf Room safe."

"You had it all along?" Roman asked, a low chuckle rumbling in his broad chest.

"I backed it up to an offshore drive three days before he showed up in our bedroom," she said smoothly. "I am a forensic accountant, Roman. I never keep the only copy in the house."

Roman threw his head back and laughed, a loud, genuine sound of joy that echoed through the top floor.

"Remind me never to get on your bad side, Mrs. Varelli," Roman said, stepping close and wrapping his arm gently around her waist.

"Just keep putting cinnamon in my coffee, and you'll be fine," she teased, resting her head against his shoulder.

That evening, the federal marshals executed simultaneous raids across three continents, shattering the international smuggling ring completely.

Everett Varelli’s plea deal was thrown out, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

The criminal empire that had threatened to tear the Varelli family apart was completely dismantled, not with bullets, but with data.
